We've stayed at the Radisson on three occasions - each visit was a short trip, not more than 3 nights.

The Radisson is in a perfect location in Edinburgh, on the Royal Mile, a few minutes walk from the Castle and from Princes Street. It's on many bus routes and close to Waverley Station, and there's a taxi rank outside so really easy to get around the city.

The hotel is very clean and has a modern decor throughout, very trendy. The rooms we've been given were a good comfortable size with a reasonably-sized bathroom. On one of our visits, there was something wrong with the ventilation - it was making a loud humming noise. We phoned reception and they switched rooms immediately no questions asked, which was great.

It has a car park which is extremely convenient in the city centre. Checking in and out was smooth and efficient. Room service was pretty good - fast response and the sandwich I ordered was tasty - but expensive. We didn't have breakfast included so can't comment on that unfortunately.

But can comment on the bar - which I think is my favourite aspect of the hotel. Itchy-coo is a very trendy bar, with a cool design and a great cocktail menu. Note that cocktails are made with fresh ingredients so be prepared to wait - but it's definitely worth the wait! It's never been over-crowded when we've been in, and the music isn't too loud so it's great for pre-dinner drinks. It has a really nice, relaxed and cool vibe about it. It is expensive (£5-6 at least for a cocktail) but it's on par with the rest of the city.

The only thing I would say is that although the service is efficient and very polite, it's not the friendliest - that is, they're not aiming to be your best friend during your stay!

And that's the only thing I will say against it is - it lacks some friendliness, some warmth in its service - e.g. despite our 3 visits, we haven't been recognised or welcomed back. Appreciate that there'll be a large number of staff and a high turnover of guests - but some recognition would have been appreciated.

I like the Radisson and I have no problem recommending it - it's clean, very comfortable, fantastic location, efficient service.

Hotel was more than I had imagined. Rooms were very weel presented and couldn't have hoped for more. The breakfast was probably the best hotel breakfast that I have ever tasted. Location was really good aswell with bars closeby.

High recommended.

We loved this hotel. We spent three nights here in Sept 2006 and were placed in a business class room. At an average cost of 108 GBP per night, it wasn’t cheap, but we thought we received good value. The room was outstanding, with a very comfortable king size bed, robes, slippers, and a good sized bathroom with thick, soft towels. It had good air conditioning and also included a small refrigerator, coffee maker, and teapot. The hotel’s location at the midpoint of the Royal Mile is ideal for sightseeing, with Edinburgh Castle at one end and the Palace of Holyrood House at the other. Despite its exterior resembling a medieval castle, the Radisson SAS is a modern, business-oriented hotel, and there were several conferences taking place there during our stay. The hotel has a bar and restaurant, but there are good pubs and restaurants all around it. It also has an excellent fitness facility in the basement. There’s a supermarket called Lidl about a ¼ mile from the hotel on South Bridge for buying wine and food items.

One of the best restaurants we dined at on our 12 city trip through Europe is right across the street (Dubh Prais), and we also had very good dinners at restaurants on George IV Bridge a few blocks from the hotel. Edinburgh rocks, with plenty to see and do during the day and action at night. We will definitely include it and the Radisson SAS on future trips to Europe.

Me and my boyfriend spent a lovely weekend in Edinburgh, city that we didn't know yet. The Radisson SAS has the best location you could dream of in this city. On Mile Road you have all the buzzling you need and on the otherside, towards St Arthur's Seat, the quietness you wouldn't find in any other city this size!
The Radisson was particularly as we got a quick check in as well as a gorgeous room on the 5th floor. High ceiling, spacious...
We went to the Ichycoo bar, but didn't find it to our taste to spend time to eat there. A bit of a canteen set up. However the breakfast was big enough to make us skip lunch on both days! The swimming pool was a perfect way to wake up on Sunday!
I really would recommand it to anyone going to Edinburgh.

We just got unlucky as we got our camera stolen between the hotel and the plane... Therefore we have no photos! :( ... a good reason to go back!! :)

  • Liked — The HUGE bed!
  • Disliked — The check out on Sunday Morning 12pm... try to do it before as it get crazy!

Stayed here for 2 nights to attend a nearby weekend conference.
Had to take an executive room as regular ones were full.It had all the usual additional bits and pieces - fancy soap, chocolate, slippers, and so on.I am not convinced that it was worth the extra since the gereral standard of the hotel was above average - so the ordinary room was probably fine.
One weakness was that while the staff were friendly ,the front desk was often undermanned,so at busy times queues formed.I had an early flight out so I checked out the night before, the early am taxi did arrive as promised.
Breakfast was well cooked.
The bar is well integrated with the small hotel lobby .The overall feel is an unusual mix of traditional and modern,it should not work but it does.
The pool is small, but one is in a prime location in the centre of Edinburgh with everything walkable,so some compromise is acceptable.
In conclusion, this is a very acceptable business style hotel in an excellent location.I would also take my family for non work trips if the rate was favourable.
