We chose this hotel based on tripadvisor reviews and we knew the location of this hotel as we had previously stayed here 13 years ago when it was the Scandic crown. I also wanted a family room so contacted the hotel directly and was able to get a rate of £115 per night excluding breakfast. I usually like a bed and breakfast rate in any hotel that I stay in but decided not to opt for this, though it was available, as reviews indicated there were plenty of places to eat nearby at a much better price.
From the airport we took the Airbus 100 which was half the price of a taxi and only took 25 minutes to get to Waverley bridge. From there it was only a five minute walk to the hotel on the Royal Mile. This walk was uphill but was not difficult because of the wonderful invention of wheels on suitcases!
Reception was very efficent and got into our room early ,which we hadn't expected, so was able to get into Edinburgh for the afternoon.
The room itself was large with a king sized bed and two singles and still felt very spacious. It was very clean and hadn't any marks on the walls and furniture. Decor is minimalist but I quite like this as it helps to keep it looking uncluttered. The bathroom was also very clean and fresh looking.
The only small criticism was there isn't a set of drawers in the room but only a couple of shelves within the wardrobe and as we had two suitcases to unpack we initially thought there would not be enough room- but there was!
There are plenty of restaurants nearby catering for most tastes. It only takes 5 minutes to get to Princes Street and we went to the restaurant in John Lewis for our breakfast each morning, which was about a third of the price of what our breakfast would have cost had we eaten in the hotel.
Leisure facilities were clean and adequate with a small pool ,sauna and a gym. The pool was warm and the kids loved it though overall the facilities are in need of a revamp.
Overall our experience at this hotel was fantastic . It is superbly located being on the Royal Mile close to all the major attractions in the Old Town but being 5 minutes away from the major shops in the New Town. I don't know what other people do but I always like to look at other hotels in a city and try to make a judgement on whether any hotels have a better location than my choice .Certainly the Radisson could not be bettered in my opinion. The rooms were excellent for the price and will have no hesitation in booking this hotel again .
