Just back from wonderful weekend staying at this hotel. I had room 458 which was a fantastic room, windows on two sides and lovely views across Edinburgh to the hills and sea. Bit of building noise on first morning from building site outside but it did not disturb me unduly. No noise for the remaining two mornings. Other friends (party of nine) were also very happy with their rooms and did not have building site outside. One of the biggest rooms I have stayed in, and friends rooms which were not business class were the same size. Difference was in the view. Huge, comfortable bed and lovely soft modern decor.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. I can't remember the bar managers name but he was very welcoming. Only ate breakfast in the hotel as there are so many excellent restaurants in Edinburgh, and it was a very good self service buffet.
Pool is fine for a dip with kids if you have any with you, but too small for any exercise. However, I had an amazing massage with Keith who is worth his weight in gold. He worked miracles on a shoulder injury I had as he is also trained in sports injuries massage. V V good and well work the £40 or £45 for a full hour. Book ahead as he is in demand.
Excellent location within easy walking distance from everything - shopping and historical sites, restaurants and bars. Taxi rank outside hotel so you never have to wait. 20 mins from airport door to door.
Had dinner at the Dome which is a lovely venue, very atmospheric, on George Street. It is an old bank and a great place to meet for a pre dinner drink as it is always quite buzzy with a nice crowd, not too young (or at least a nice mix). Food was adequate but not anything to write home about.
Had another dinner at one bar one, also on George street. Fantastic food, atmosphere a bit lacking for night time. Perfect for Lunch. Great Tapas. They close early on Sunday night and directed us directly round the corner to a lovely Italian restaurant with the best prawns I've had anywhere.
