I recently stayed at the Radisson and felt they offered adequate (yet unspectacular) accommodations. The hotel location was the best aspect of my stay. If you are going to Edinburgh, I recommend staying somewhere on the Royal Mile. This stretch of the city contained most of the attractions worth seeing.

Overall, the Radisson is probably a 3-star hotel. The staff is average at best. The rooms are fairly large (my room had recently been renovated and the décor reminded me of a cheaper “W” style). The ongoing renovations seemed to upset overall services available at the hotel (they probably will be fully completed by the end of June). If you are able to obtain an excellent rate for this hotel (under $200 a night), then I would recommend a stay here. If not, go for one of the more upscale alternatives in the Old Town.

Edinburgh is a charming city. My overall visit was extremely enjoyable.

Disappointed by refurbishment

Stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms but very disappointed.

The room (409) was an attic room and seemed smaller than many of the others.

Although the windows were double glazed there were gaps in the frames which caused a cold draught. ( And in Edinburgh cold is cold....) Not helped by the fact that the heating/air conditioning system was not working properly throughout the refurbished area of the hotel. The room was quite chilly at times throughout our stay. We eventually managed to get a heater from them and I noticed that other guets had also resorted to this.

I don't know if it was the fact that the windows had not been sealed properly but the room was also extremely noisy from the traffic outside on Royal Mile and in this part of town this is a 24 hours per day problem.

There was no mirror above the dressing table or within reach of any power point which made it impossible for my wife blow dry her hair. The mirror in the bathroom was unuseable because the extractor fan did not work and so it was misted and impossible to use. They eventually brought us a mirror but only after being asked several times.

The bulb in one of the side lights in the room flickered throughout our stay and was not fixed despite our requests.

The TV movie system had not yet been activated at the time of our visit.

Worst of all the hotel twice deactivated our room keys during our stay and told us this was because they had not taken a proper credit card swipe at the time of our check in. They were kind enough to leave a message for us on the room phone telling us that they had done this - but only after they had shut us out of the room!

The £14.50 additional charge for breakfast, which is a mediocre buffet, is just ridiculous.

The front of house manager tried to be be helpful and sort out our problems and this was appreciated but several members of staff openly blamed the poor quality of the refurbishment for the problems we were having.

Hopefully these will all be teething problems that will be sorted out but we are disappointed enough to exclude Radisson from the list of companies we are considering for a cruise in a few months time.

I stayed at the Radisson for just one night in a family room, I was with friends who stayed in a twin room. The family room was massive in fact it was really 2 very large rooms plus a corridor. It was at the front and so had brilliant views of the Royal Mile. The double glazing meant you could enjoy the view without the noise. My friends did have a much smaller room and unlike mine their room was very hot. In fairness the Hotel has just been fitted with air conditioning and this isn't switched on yet but the renovations finish soon so this shouldn't be a problem in the future.
The breakfast was very good and the service at breakfast was efficient and friendly. You can't fault the location everything is within easy reach and there is a taxi rank right outside so getting a taxi when you need one is simple.
Last year I stayed at the Carlton, I had a very grotty room that stank of smoke, mouldy tiles in the bathroom and very poor service. The Radisson is just across the road but in my view is a million miles away in terms of its service, rooms and staff. I'd definitely stay here again.

Just returned from a break at the radisson sas in edinburgh. the hotel location is excellent and must be the best feature. everything is right on the doorstep - directly on to the royal mile - excellent.
we stayed in a newly refurbished family room on the fourth floor. the room was enormous, comfortable and very clean. on the minus side, it was very sparsely furnished and lacked storage space. the temperature control unit was not working and the room was a little on the cold side. but apart from those minor points we were very pleased with the room.
the main thing that we were very unhappy about was that on checking in we were informed that the rate we were paying did not include a breakfast. this was not made clear to us on booking and does not tell you this on their web site. most of the rates mid week do not include breakfast. we were told that should we like a breakfast it would be £14.50 per person including any children over 7. so double check your booking. we thought the rate we were paying should have included breakfast. we have stayed in other hotels and paid less and the rate has included breakfast. we stayed in this same hotel 2 years ago (although was then the crowne plaza), paid less per night and received breakfast. so beware - should you find yourself without breakfast, we found an excellent restaurant up the hill towards the castle on the left called 'ciao ragazzi' - they do a fantastic full cooked breakfast (cooked fresh to order) for £5.25 - no comparison! they are open at 8.30 whereas most of the other cafes open at 9.00. all in all we had a fantastic break - edinburgh is a wonderful place to visit and the people are friendly and inviting.

We stayed one night in the NEW WING. Could not fault it. Great staff. Location as described in previous reviews. Some little noise but not an issue. The new rooms are great. A littly pricy @ £110 per night but had to get out of "Jurys". it was desperate. Well worth the money if you get a new room. Excellent customer service. Nice quiet restraunt with good menu.
