“Wedding Weekender”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

The Radisson Blu on the Royal mile was very central and was a good base for exploring Edinburgh. Within walking distance of Castle, Princess Street, Grassmarket and Cowgate. Room was very comfortable, clean and spacious. No drawer space in room was an issue. Comfortable and friendly hotel which we would use again if returning to Edinburgh in the near future.

Dear Ian,

Thank you for your review of the hotel.

I think you have described our location perfectly, being in the centre of the Royal Mile really does mean you are close to just about everything Edinburgh has to offer.

It is fantastic to hear you would return to the hotel, there is no greater compliment!

Best Regards,

We stayed at the Radisson Blu Edinburgh this last weekend. My husband's God Daughter was getting married at The Scotsman just around the corner. We had read the recent reviews and had concerns which I have to say were dispelled from the moment we arrived. Tony at the front desk was helpful, our room was not ready but he would make sure our bags were put into when it was - they were. He also provided us with a great map of the city. Our room was great but had a connecting door - as they sometimes do. This proved to be a problem when the occupants returned at 2am and decided to party. A call to reception ensured that we were moved to another room and were able to get some sleep. It was all done with the minimum of fuss and with any help that we needed from the staff. They had also upgraded us to a Business Class room which we thought was a nice touch. Yes there are some signs of wear in the hotel but when you consider how many people must pass through those corridors in any given week that is not surprising. A special mention goes to Tony, Phil and Jamie on the front desk who could not have been more helpful.

Dear SmintyLondon,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of the hotel and your kind words.

I'm sorry you were disturbed by some of our other guests but I am glad we managed to sort this problem swiftly and to your satisfaction.

I will pass on your comments to Jamie, Phil and Tony from our guest services/concierge team. I really would recommend all of our guests make use of them during their stay. They are all fantastically knowledgeable on the city and focussed on ensuring all our guests have an extra special stay!

The thing we loved about this place was the location - right on the Royal Mile. Also, they have parking, which made it convenient to drive right into Edinburgh, park here, then walk around the rest of the time. We didn't eat dinner here, but we did have breakfast. There was quite a wait when we were there, not sure if that's typical or not. Big breakfast buffet plus full English, which was pleasant. We did enjoy their pool one evening - it was very nice. The place was pricey, but it was nice in a great location.

Dear Chelsea J,

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel.

You are right our location and the fact we have an onsite car park makes us a really convenient location to enjoy Edinburgh. Edinburgh is such a compact city that lends itself to walking to the majority of the major attractions.

Please accept my apologies for your slight wait to get a table for breakfast. I can assure you this is not typical. However on the odd occasion during our peak times there may be a very slight wait which I am sorry you encountered.

Dear Rtharvey,

Firstly can I offer my sincere apologies for the issue you had regarding a weak shower. This is not a problem we generally suffer from so thank you for bringing it to our attention. I will have our maintenance team undertake a full check of the showers in the hotel to ensure we pick up on any problems there may be.

I am delighted that apart from this issue you had such a great stay and would stay at the hotel again.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and I hope I can welcome you back to the Raddison Blu Edinburgh in the near future.

Really great location for the historic sights.
Had a 4th floor room at the front with a view over the Royal Mile. Good double glazing meant no trouble from any traffic or street noise; we had very quiet undisturbed nights with really comfortable pillows.
The room was clean and comfortable - no sign of 'tiredness' that other reviewers have mentioned. The service at the front desks was excellent - always friendly and willing to help. The pool was fine, never too crowded and one day we had it to ourselves at 5.30pm.
Breakfast a little disappointing in that the buffet style means hot food is kept warm. But a good range of fruits, cereals, pastries and bread and jams. If you order poached eggs on toast they are cooked to order.
We would certainly go back to this hotel again.

If you book on-line and include breakfast be sure to take a printout that confirms this.
We booked B&B rate through Expedia but at check-in the hotel record showed our booking as room only! I cannot tell where the mix-up happened but luckily I had a printout from my on-line booking that showed ",,, inc. breakfast" and the reception staff immediately accepted this without question.

Dear Neville_G,

Thank you for such a great and comprehensive review. I'm glad you enjoyed the view over the historic Royal Mile. We have recently replaced all the windows on this side of the building and also the Niddry Street side. This has helped greatly in reducing the outside noise to an absolute minimum. We will have replaced every bedroom window in the hotel within the next 6 weeks or so.

I am sorry regarding the mix up with your rate through Expedia. It sounds like our reception team dealt with this to your satisfaction. I will however look into this issue to ensure that our future guests do not suffer this inconvenience.

Stayed for wknd with friends . Rooms are nice all mod cons, location is great although bars and restaurants around area a bit expensive so worth travelling a bit more out to grass market etc as prices more reasonable. Breakfast was only fault not enough food for all minute food was put out it was gone so you couldn't get a proper breakfast ! Taxi very expensive so worth getting bus to airport as great service !

Dear paul649,

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. I'm sorry you had some issues with your breakfast. Rest assured I have spoken with the kitchen brigade regarding this and they would also like to pass on their apologies.

You are right with regards to the airport bus service. It is fantastic value and drops you only a few minutes walk from the hotel. In the not too distant future we will also have the much spoken about tram service running which will provide another option for travel to and from the airport.

Friendly, helpful staff, good food and fabulous cocktails all in a perfect central location.
Can't fault this hotel, a really enjoyable 2 night stay. Plenty of attractions and good restaurants within easy walking distance. Worth heading down early to enjoy the breakfast as it did get very busy and there was a queue but the breakfast was worth waiting for!

Room Tip: We were on 5th floor and view was fantastic. It is a little noisy but you are bang in the middle of...
