“Location is Good - Hotel is Great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

We stayed here for four nights in May 2013. At first we thought it was too far out of the city centre but the bus service to and from the city is terrific. Several busses, especially the number 22 stops outside of the hotel. The Ocean Terminal mall is next door and has restaurants, shops and bus connections even for out of city tours.
The breakfast is complimentary and very good. It is a buffet and not "a la carte" quality so it is typical Holiday Inn food. Good but not high end.
Do not pay to use the lobby Internet computer because it is slow, slow, slow. No Internet in the rooms but it is available free of charge in the lobby.
The staff were wonderful, service excellent and overall an excellent stay.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh - Waterfront whilst on business in Edinburgh.
The hotel could do with a little TLC, the furniture in the bedroom has seen better days and the bathroom was a bit shabby.
The room looked out to the rear of the hotel, on the 4th floor, the window sound insulation was pretty poor and the air con unit made random loud noises even when switched off.
Room to room sound insulation was also poor, slept with ear plugs to drown out the noise.
At least there was free parking and was walking distance to the shopping centre for something to eat.

The staff were a bit slow at reception, having more than one room booked seemed to cause confusion, no bother really just funny. The rooms in comparison to other holiday inn express's lack a little, no free internet, 1 iron for the whole hotel meant tracking the iron down/waiting/using which is a bit silly really. Hotel was a little trek outside the center, or a £10 taxi or bus... Free breakfast is always a nice touch, enough to fill you. Really think the chain needs to set a standard for all these express's from the amenities to the room equipment

Dear Sean T,
Thank you for posting a review of your recent stay.
Please accept my apologies for the confusion during your check in process. You had all been pre- registered as a group and the receptionist had not realised this.
Whilst we charge at present for wi-fi access in our guest rooms, free access is available in our public areas. You’ll be delighted to hear that we will be offering free wi-fi access throughout the hotel from June this year.
I’m glad that you enjoyed our free breakfast and you’ll be pleased to hear that we have purchased more irons!
I hope that we may have the opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel in the future.
Kind regards,
Andrew

Unable to book any 'favourite hotel' , so we chose this one, 2.5 miles from the centre.

We had two rooms, the double was a good size, but the twin was quite a bit smaller. Both rooms only had one chair (two would have been preferable). One of the single beds had a mattress where the springs could be felt, so after turning it, used the duvet cover to rectify (other single bed was ok, but person using that was 'slim'!). There was also outside noise from 'refuge trucks' and other vehicles, so it wasn't possible to get a good night's sleep

Towels were changed daily and bedding clean. However, both rooms had carpet marks, so could have done with a vacuum/clean.

Plenty of tea/coffee and hot chocolate available via room or from the downstairs dining area. Breakfast was listed as 'continental, but also included beans, scrambled egg and sausages.

The hotel served its purpose, but wasn't good value for money.

Dear Cressida,
Many thanks for reviewing your recent stay with us.
I’m sorry that you has issues with the mattress in one of your rooms, had you brought this concern to our attention during your stay we would have tried our utmost to rectify this situation for you.
All Holiday Inn Express bedrooms are a standard size with the exception of our accessible rooms which are larger to accommodate wheelchair users.
We have a refuse collection once per day and food deliveries three times per week and these all occur during the morning and I am sorry that your sleep may have been disturbed by these vehicles.
I’m glad that you found that there were plenty of hot beverages available during your stay and that you were able to enjoy our free Express Start buffet breakfast which now includes the hot choices of beans, scrambled egg and sausage.
Once again may thanks for your review. I do hope that we may have the opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel in the future.
Kind regards,
Andrew

Was travelling with a dog and were very pleased with the standard of the room we were allocated. Everything clean and tidy and a decent size. Liked the design of the shower room. Comfortable bed and choice of pillows. Reception staff very friendly and helpful when asked where any dog friendly bars were. Easy access to centre of town from bus stop outside with good service. Free parking a bonus. We enjoyed the breakfast and felt it was good value. Would certainly return.

The hotel is right next to the Royal Yacht and a small shopping centre on the outskirts of Edinburgh, but the city centre is only a 15-20 min bus ride away on several (very regular!) buses. Rooms are the usual Holiday Inn Express size and quality, so just the basics but the beds are comfortable and it is quiet at night.
There is limited phone reception in the hotel which is strange, and there is free wifi in the restaurant / lobby. You pay in the rooms but it is fast.
All in all a good stay just outside the centre. From the airport you need to take the express into town then a bus, or just hop in a taxi.
There are a few restaurants within 10 minutes walk away if you get hungry, but the hotel does a free buffet breakfast.

An ideal place next to Ocean Terminal close to amenities and the "Royal Yacht" The reception staff are very friendly and helpful, The room on the 4th floor was right next to the lift, and although was fairly quiet, was audible at times. Being a tall person the room felt small and so did the bed. The only way to get a good nights sleep was corner to corner, not the most enjoyable position, especially when sharing. There was outside noise evident throughout our stay, which didn't bode well.

Room facilities were the standard, although the choice of coffee and tea and the fact that there was very little of it, we were left lacking in the beverage department. At the bar on the ground floor, limited selection of beers and of course as expected, the coffee machine was broken. We were however directed towards the breakfast coffee machines where we were told we could get free drinks.

If personal preferences are to be taken into account, A Premier Inn is better value, large comfortable beds and a guarantee of a good nights sleep.

Breakfast was 7 - 10, Plenty of cereals, Fruit looked past its best and a rather limited selection of cooked food by the time I got there (09:15), (sausages, scrambled eggs and beans and nothing else), attention to detail is lacking when it comes to breakfast, no greeting by staff, no explanation of where and what was on offer, rather disappointed in the whole experience.

Room Tip: Rooms on all floors i.e. 042, 142, 242, 342 and 442 are right next to the lift, if pre-booking a roo...

Dear Simon C,
Many thanks for reviewing your recent stay with us.
I’m delighted that you enjoyed our location and that you found our reception staff to be very friendly and helpful.
Our guest rooms are a standard size for Holiday Inn Express hotels as are our double beds. We do have some rooms which have zip twinned beds turning them into king size double beds and should you return to our hotel we will ensure that you are allocated one of these rooms if you let us know in advance.
The free Express start breakfast now includes selected hot favourites: sausage, beans and scrambled eggs and is a help yourself buffet selection with menus displayed in our guest lifts and on the tables in our breakfast area to help you make your selection.
I’m sorry that the coffee machine at the bar was not in service during your stay but am pleased that our team offered you free coffee from our breakfast coffee machines.
Many thanks once again for your review. I hope that we may have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.
Kind regards,
Andrew
