We have just come back from a 3 day stay in Edinburgh. We stayed at the travel lodge as we have stayed there before, and knew of its almost perfect location! If you can book in advance you can get a real steal, but the average price for a family room is still only about £60 if you cant. Located just off the royal mile, next to the world's end pub. Decent food there, and resasonably priced. The hotel was the better of the travel lodges we booked on this trip and the fact we have stayed again shows how happy we were with it. It was fairly busy, and it is no frills, but the room is a decent size and I cant actually think of any negatives. The breckfast is £7.50 each but children eat free, so £15 for 4 of us was fine. The choice is good, and you can eat as much as you like. As it was busy people were just walking in without any voucher, as there was no staff to check. Try it if you dont mind risking getting caught!
Edinburgh it self was brilliant. We did Mary kings close, which although quite expensive was worth it. Go before 10am to save £1 each. We also did the castle, will risk the wrath of every scottish person, but I thought it was really dissapointing. Very military, and most of the buildings accessable, but good views. Oppositre the travel lodge was a really quirky turkish restaurant which was nice to go for dips etc... And further down the road was a fantastic vegetarian restaurant, called David Bann. The tourist bus was also brilliant. take different busses to get different tales. Fantastic city cant wait to go again!
