I stayed at the Travelodge in September for a total of 6 nights. The room was a decent size*, and the staff was nice. There were however numerous problems. For some reason I got kicked out of my non-smoking room and was moved to a much smaller smoking room on the 4th floor. The smoking room wasn't that bad, but there was a definite stench that pervaded it. The place also had some housecleaning issues. There was no shampoo or body soap for the showers which was unfortunate. Bottom line: it would have been decent for after a fun night to just crash, but it is not a great place to stay. also- dont do the breakfast!

We stayed at this Travelodge for my hen weekend..It was very nice, clean and tidy but basic ie no hairdryer etc but just what I wanted from a Travelodge. The one thing to point out is that the shower curtains are VERy short so you end up soaking the room, all 8 of us in seperate rooms agreed that when we came out of the shower the floor was soaking due to short curtain so beware!
But other than that a clean roon plus breakfast for £7.50 was very good, a buffet offering orange juice, cerial, toast, fully cooked breakfast.

We stayed at the travelodge for 5 nights in July as we were in Edinburgh for a wedding.

The hotel was in a great location just off the royal mile.
We were given a room facing the carpark, so we did not receive any street noise at night.

The hotel is what we expected, with no extras like mini bar or telephone in room, but were surprised by the great cafe and bar downstairs. Good service and affordable food.

The room was comfortable enough, but do agree with previous reviews that the shower curtain was terrible.
The bathroom did indeed flood every time we took a shower, and we would have to use our towels to mop it up.
The room cleaning service isn't the best, and most days my husband would need to go reception to get fresh towels and even toilet paper.

We hired a car for a couple of days and were lucky to be able to park at the hotel for free as the boom gate was broken and not dispensing tickets.

On our last night at the hotel the fire alarms were set off at 5am...and the entire hotel was evacuated onto the street for 45 mins. We had just arrived home from the wedding at 3am and due to catch our flight home to Sydney at 9am.
As you can imagine we weren't exactly thrilled.

All in all the travelodge was adequete and we would probably stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel in August at the height of the fringe season. It may be true that this hotel is central to most of the tourist places round Edinburgh. But negative whilst stopping there was that I had a room facing St Marys street which was very noisy as traffic going up and down at all hours, also some basic things were missing from the room like a lack of phone and hairdryer and towels being changed twice whilst I stopped for 4 days! Shower had a good thrust of water but shower curtain was not so good as water leaked all over floor and had to use the towels to mop up the excess water up! Maybe the traffic was due to the fringe I honestly don't know but it ruined my break as I was knacked every morning due to lack of sleep! Also did not recieve a warm welcome and had to take the cases to the train station on the day of leaving which added more money to my stay as the hotel would not store them bearing in mind that I had stopped in London a few weeks before and the hotel I stopped there did not have a problem with guests leaving luggage in the hotel and that was right next door to King's Cross!!
All in all I would not recommend this hotel and when I next visit Edinburgh next year to the fringe again will not be stopping here!

We have just come back from a 3 day stay in Edinburgh. We stayed at the travel lodge as we have stayed there before, and knew of its almost perfect location! If you can book in advance you can get a real steal, but the average price for a family room is still only about £60 if you cant. Located just off the royal mile, next to the world's end pub. Decent food there, and resasonably priced. The hotel was the better of the travel lodges we booked on this trip and the fact we have stayed again shows how happy we were with it. It was fairly busy, and it is no frills, but the room is a decent size and I cant actually think of any negatives. The breckfast is £7.50 each but children eat free, so £15 for 4 of us was fine. The choice is good, and you can eat as much as you like. As it was busy people were just walking in without any voucher, as there was no staff to check. Try it if you dont mind risking getting caught!
Edinburgh it self was brilliant. We did Mary kings close, which although quite expensive was worth it. Go before 10am to save £1 each. We also did the castle, will risk the wrath of every scottish person, but I thought it was really dissapointing. Very military, and most of the buildings accessable, but good views. Oppositre the travel lodge was a really quirky turkish restaurant which was nice to go for dips etc... And further down the road was a fantastic vegetarian restaurant, called David Bann. The tourist bus was also brilliant. take different busses to get different tales. Fantastic city cant wait to go again!

  • Liked — Definately its location and its price
  • Disliked — Nothing, it really was perfect for our needs
