An excellent location and the price is right. As long as you know what to expect, you should be very satisfied with this hotel. Items to note:
- the location really is as good as everyone says it is!
- ask for a quiet room at the back of the hotel so you do not front the busy street
- rooms are very basic but clean
- they charge £3 per bag to store it for you if you arrive early and your room isn’t ready or need to store it for a few hours after you check out
- family rooms for 4 are only really suitable for one child although we managed to squeeze our two youngsters into the bed (sleeping opposite direction to each other). The second bed is just the sofa without the cushions (doesn’t fold out) so it is really just a short single bed.
- Only bathroom amenity is a tiny bar of soap
- Only some rooms have tubs as many are shower only
- Check in was very slow with a long line
- Very basic food in the restaurant

This hotel has everything Travelodge UK promises. Good location, comfortable beds and simple cuisine. This hotel is suitable for anyone looking for either;
a) A cheap place to sleep
b) A comfy bed
c) A good location.
Alright so the only complimentary is a small bar of soap, so what? For the price you pay (£40 my trip) whats £1 more to buy some head and shoulders going to matter?
Besides if you book a Travelodge you should know already what to expect. So BYOB (shampoo in my case) and expect to have a room, with a bed and shower.
As for the bar/cafe, the menu is the same at all hotels, so if you travel lots, you know you will always have something that you will like.

I booked this hotel for a few nights after not being able to book our entire stay at the Ibis. The rate (70/night) and room size was better than the Ibis, but I liked the location of Ibis better.

We had a family room that had a couch and more storage area, but there was a mildewy stink in the room. All the lighting was florescent and there was no alarm clock or hair dryer (although they had them at the front desk to borrow). We were on the first floor just past the front desk, so very near the bar area which meant a bit of noise and smoke.

I'm also still trying to reverse an extra night's charge with Travelodge even though I had canceled in time. I would recommend this hotel but as a second resort.

We stayed here for 3 nights, the location is great, just off the Royal Mile, it is in a slightly scruffy side street about halfway down. The room was basic but clean. After we had read some of the reviews about noise we specifically requested a room at the back of the hotel, which we got. It was pretty quiet, considering the Tatto and Fringe Festival were on this was pretty good. If you like a bit of luxury this won't be for you, but if you want somewhere to crash after a tiring day walking up and down hills this is fine. One point, there are no hairdryers in the rooms, although they do have some in reception if you ask, but they don't always have one available so take your own! Can recommend Pancho Villas Mexican restaurant, have the 'Mexican Flan' if you like creme caramel - truly heavenly. Also Dubh Prais on the Royal Mile, which is excellent (Aberdeen Angus steak is excellent!), although I would advise booking as it is very popular butvery small!

We got one of Travelodge's £26 bargain rooms here, which was excellent value. The rooms are basic with double bed and pull-out sofa bed (turns into two singles) which was fine for the kids. The bath was small, but the shower was a good one. There was no AC unit in the room, but we had the window open and we slept comfortably - considering Edinburgh was having a bit of a heatwave at the time!

There is a bar on the ground floor which serves pizzas, etc at night and a buffet-style breakfast (bacon, eggs, hash browns, pastries, cereals, etc) in the morning for £6.50 & kids eat free, but there are dozens of restaurants within a few minutes walk - including the fantastic David Bann's Vegetarian restaurant across the street.

This hotel is perfectly located - just off the Royal Mile beside the Museum of Childhood (free), then carry on up the hill to the Castle with other places of interest along the way. Parking at the hotel is limited, but there is a NCP car park close by. Waverley Station is about half a mile away, so you could walk it but a taxi would be cheap enough.

So for a couple of days sightseeing/tourist visit, I'd recommend it, but if you plan a longer stay in Edinburgh you might want somewhere with more facilities.
