I stayed in this hotel in May 2008 for a bank holiday weekend break to explore the city of Edinburgh. At the time our main criteria for accomadation was location (central and near to the main sights) and price (reasonable enough to provide a good standard hotel without breaking the bank). This hotel met this criteria but I was suprised at how basic it was in comparison to similar rated accomadation that I have stayed in, in the past....

Plus Points
-Located on the royal mile and close to the main high street, Castle, Holyrood Palace and parliment. Although there is alot of walking involved to get the full Edinburgh experience, this is a well located hotel.

Bad Points
-I would expect an Iron and Hairdryer to be in the room but had to go back down to reception to request these items, however once requested they were made available
-The lifts are very slow and even though we were on the third floor, we still felt it was quicker to take the stairs
-The beds were not made during our stay, it appears that the cleaner only hoovered and cleaned out the bin!

Even though their are bad points to this hotel I feel that you get what you pay for and would consider a similar rated hotel for a city break again if need be as you spend the majority of your break out of the hotel and therefore its main aim is to be a place to store your luggage and sleep!

Stayed here on business, does exactly what you'd expect from a Travelodge - a comfortable place to sleep at reasonable cost.

The location is very central, no more than 10 minutes from all the major tourist places, the business district slightly longer but taxis are plentiful.

Not much noise encountered which suprised me given that I was allocated a ground floor room.

The breakfast was adequate, there are other options locally, but I still think worth the cost. I didn't bother with the evening meal simply because there is so much other choice around locally.

I would reccomend if you are visiting Edinburgh on a budget and don't need the usual frills of some of the bigger hotels but perhaps need one step up from a hostel.

My teenage daughter and I stayed here Mon-Thur nights, June 16-19, 2008 for about 75 pounds/night (booked the previous fall). We were 2nd floor in back and it was quiet. Daughter used the full-size bed and I used the couch that converted into a bed - not the most luxurious bed, but adequate. Room was clean. Staff was friendly on check-in and with requests (e.g., borrowing an iron). Walk about 50 meters uphill and you are on The Royal Mile ... can't be beat for the combination of location and price. Convenient to Waverly train station, too ... not that much of a walk. Didn't use the on-site restaurant. Found the closest bakeries, delis, grocery stores to the SW, on South Bridge street.

Stayed here for two nights on business, was a great base close by all amenties and work, all areas of hotel were clean and staff were friendly and helpful. Would definatley recommend to friends and others and would stay again.
