We stayed here for two nights in January. Finding the hotel was not too difficult and we easily found a parking space at the back. However we made the mistake of not realising it was a private car park (and not run by the hotel) so attracted a fine which didn't leave us feeling too happy . There was a small sign in reception but we only noticed this later. This hotel is in a great location and we were allocated a room on the ground floor aand facing two streets. A short walk from the Royal Mile and the other attractions. We didn't notice the noise mentioned in previous reviews. We were there on a Friday night so did notice the 'bucks' and 'hens' nights. The bar in the hotel was great and the cafe reasonably well priced and decent meals. We were rather ill on our second night and the staff prepared a tray of soup for us to take back to the room. We found the rooms better than expected, clean and well maintained. Booking many months in advance we got the rooms for 19 pounds so for that price no complaints. Good place to stay if you are on a budget !

  • Liked — Proximity to the Royal mile and the grat bar/cafe
  • Disliked — Paid parking not clearly identified !

The hotel is fairly basic but very good value. The location is very good. In a side street just off the Royal Mile. As other reviewers have said, road noise at the front is quite bad - when I stayed there was traffic all night, drunks passing by and car alarms going all night. The room was reasonably sized and the bed comfortable. The bathroom looked a bit tired. The room generally needed a bit of maintainance. Breakfast was good value if you pay per adult and kids eat free.

A decent budget hotel - great value if you get cheap interent deals. Not for anyone looking for luxury.

This is a word of warning for anyone that wants to book this hotel. We planned to book a 2 night stay for 4 of us travelling from Spain in September. I went online and the special price was £29 per room per night. I looked up the reviews on Tripadvisor and whilst they were generally good I noted the commments on noise whilst staying in rooms at the front of the hotel. I emailed Travelodge and said I wanted to book 2 rooms at the side or back of the hotel. They state it takes up to 10 working days to respond which I think is unacceptable. Anyway after 3 weeks of waiting I sent an email to their press department complaining about the lack of communication. They answered by saying I should contact the hotel directly to book this. By doing this you only get rooms at their standard rate of £70. I am now booking another hotel and to say I am disappointed by this response is a massive understatement.
My advice to people using Travelodges is to be very careful, especially with their pricing.

Having booked a stay for two nights just before Easter we were expecting the hotel to be quite busy but it was actually very quiet for the time of year. I rang up the hotel the day before to see if we could drop our bags off before we checked in and they informed us we weren't able to do this for security purposes. I totally understand their safety concerns but it seems silly when they can see that we will be staying the night not to let us leave our bags at the hotel in the morning since we would be leaving them there for the next few days.
We checked in at about 2 o'clock with no problems and went straight to our room. The room was small but adequately equipped for a short stay. We had a room on the road which I feel was quite noisy, and also unneccessary as the hotel wasn't very full so we could have been put on the courtyard side. The bathroom was dirty (ie stained shower curtain, smelly loo) but with all travelodges absolutely cleanliness wasn't expected when we booked. On the last morning of our stay the fire alarms went off at 10am and we all had to make our way out to the front of the building in our pj's (I know, very lazy). We got the feeling it was down to some guests smoking in their room and feel that this should have been managed a bit better and apologies should have been given.
All in all not too bad for a budget traveller but Edinburgh is a nice city and therefore I feel a bit more money on a nicer hotel would have made our break a bit more comfortable.

We wanted somewhere reasonably easy to travel to, but close enough to walk into the centre of Edinburgh - and that's what this Travelodge offered at a very competitive price. The rooms were comfortable enough and we were not disturbed, despite being at street level. We thought it a great location to explore from, being within a 10 minute walk of Princes Street and 5 minutes from the Royal Mile. Parked at St. Johns Hill, which is 2 minutes walk away and was £7.60 for 24 hours (with discount).
