We visited Edinburgh for one night only on 27th July as we had been lucky enough to get tickets for Tom Waits, he was in town for a couple of nights.
We were not too fussed about where we were staying as the concert was the sole reason for our visit. Jury's came up at a good price, £65, Google Earth showed it to be in a great location for our needs, so an easy choice.
To be fair at the price paid it should not really be faulted. It is in an ideal location, a short walk up a Close ( passage ) and you are on the Royal Mile and a short bracing up hill walk to the castle. Also the mainline train station is within yards. Nearby secure car parking is £10, ( none available at the hotel ), so all in all not too bad a place to stay. It had the look of being recently refurbished so was clean and pleasant in the way these chain hotels tend to be. Other than that it was sufficient for our needs. Except for the woeful check in process. We arrived at 14:30 so reasonably expected our room to be ready. The reception was already overloaded and the staff were blaming many things, not least guests being reluctant to get up and leave! It took some time for our room to be prepared, I think it was 16:55 when we finally got our room. Not good. On the up side, we were fed and watered free of charged but that only softened the blow a little. As we were only in town for one night, we needed/wanted to maximise our time there and this dulled the edge a little. No blame should be attached to the reception staff. They were exemplary and professional at all times. It is Jury's policy makers who need to sort the check in mess out.
