i booked into this hotel with 12 friends in nov 2007. the price per room was excellent, £70 per night, and with 3 adults per room, it was an easy decision for a 3 day break.

On booking in, the front staff were unhelpful to be opening their doors to a group of 12 in one go, and when taking the initial payment, deducted over £1000. Staff gave the reason that this was to ensure against any breakages, but after protests reduced this by half. Not a good start.

Rooms were of a decent size, but unfortuantly the view was of the bin / waste area, and the 4 rooms we had booked were spread out over the hotel. despite being clear on booking that 3 adults were in each room, the towels provided consisted of one full size towel and one face towel. a simple call to reception failed to sort the problem, and i had to make 3 trips over the 3 days to ensure sufficient towels for our party.

The location is excellent, walking distance to most areas of town ,and excellent for the castle.

Door staff on the hotel doors of a night, but aren't too understanding when you can't find your room card straight away.

overall, areas of issue are minor, and probably limited to my visit.
but excellent price, and location.

I am surprised our staff were unhelpful as this is normally one of our strongest points as you will see from other reviews.

I would like the opportunity to discus your stay with you to find out exactly what happened.

Myself and my fiance stayed in this hotel in November. We were a little dubious about booking it given some of the other reviews however when we arrived our fears evaporated instantly. We arrived late evening and we checked in efficently by a pleasant staff member who informed us the restaurant was still open for food til 10 given that it was 9.45 we order food straight away and despite arriving near closing the food was lovely and staff very friendly.
The room itself was larger than we had anticipated, spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated . The one disappointment was the bed which I assume was a standard double was rather on the small size given my fiance is 6ft 3. Another negative was the noise from outside the hotel. We were located at the back of the hotel but a public walk way runs behind it and sometimes at night it was a little noisy.
The hotel itself is in a great location, across the road from the main train station, 5 minutes walk to Princess Street and the royal mile. From this hotel you can walk to most tourist attractions. Edinburgh is a very easy to navigate on foot.
Overall we had a fantastic time in Edinburgh, loved this hotel and would have no qualms in recomending it to friends

I stayed at this hotel for new years 2007.
The only redeeming feature this hotel has is its location but this would still not be enough to entice me to its doors again!

On arrival at the hotel at 9.30 pm we were asked to wait 25 minutes for our room to be ready, whcih turned into 40 minutes. I found this unsatisfactory particularly as we had confirmed our booking the previous day. On day two of our stay a letter came under the hotel room door informing us that we were required to vacate our room to another due to unforseen circumstances. I found this to be terribly inconvenent and the staff added to this feeling by being completely indifferent to this disturbance and we were told that we were not the only guests that this was happening to.

We found the room to be very basic-not even a door on the wardrobe. Room service was not available and having a shower was quite like punishment due to lukewarm warm water. On our arrival to bedroom two, we found have eaten sweets and sweet wrappers on the bedroom floor. On check out I informed the receptionist of the three star squalor of the room and was asked " why didn't we inform the hotel of this?". Well frankly after going through the above ordeals, why bring on any more terror on yourself!

I would also strongly advise not to eat in the bar. Who knew it is possible to make a bad sandwich!

This was our second visit to the Jurys and having had a room at the rear of the hotel first time round (noisy due to bottle bank -view not the best), I e-mailed in advance asking for a front - facing room. Received promp reply to the email and was allocated appropriate room.
Room itself was excellent. Very spacious, clean and well maintained with good views over Princes street and the Gardens.
Have read previous reviews complaining of obtrusive noise from Waverely station, unruly guests and mysterious 'smells' emanating from the hotel corridors - experienced none of these, in fact one of the cleanest, most orderly hotels we have visited. Staff were efficient, friendly and professional during one of the busiest weekends of the year.
My partner and I have stayed in countless hotels over a period of years (including the prestigious Balmoral over the Bridge) For value and comfort, Jurys is up there with the best of them. Full marks to management and staff for all their efforts. Great hotel.

A basic, budget hotel overlooking the main station, therefore very noisy at all hours. The property is well past its best and new carpets can't hide the ropey state of this building. Cleanliness is poor (cracked tiles in the bathroom, and violent food poisoning thanks to a cooked breakfast). Hot water in the shower 1 day out of the 7 that I stayed.

Staff are friendly, but indifferent, happily overcharging me until I noticed.

The restaurant food is pretty poor - apart from the life threatening breakfast, the evening food was greasy, poorly cooked and expensive.

In room amenities are not as advertised (no in room safe, for example). Internet access is via cable only (no wireless!) and is an outrageous £10/day. TV has 5 terrestial channels only. Phone calls out are amazingly expensive.
