A basic, budget hotel overlooking the main station, therefore very noisy at all hours. The property is well past its best and new carpets can't hide the ropey state of this building. Cleanliness is poor (cracked tiles in the bathroom, and violent food poisoning thanks to a cooked breakfast). Hot water in the shower 1 day out of the 7 that I stayed.

Staff are friendly, but indifferent, happily overcharging me until I noticed.

The restaurant food is pretty poor - apart from the life threatening breakfast, the evening food was greasy, poorly cooked and expensive.

In room amenities are not as advertised (no in room safe, for example). Internet access is via cable only (no wireless!) and is an outrageous £10/day. TV has 5 terrestial channels only. Phone calls out are amazingly expensive.

In terms of its location, you can't fault this hotel. it's tucked away behind Waverley Station, has good views and is within a couple of minutes' walk of Princes Street.

The hotel is a clean modern and functional three-star hotel. I certainly didn't notice the odd smell that some reviewers have alluded to.

the reception area is spacious, and we found the young staff friendly and efficient.

The rooms are adequate, with a decent-sized bathroom, tea & coffeee making facilities, tv etc etc. Nothing very stylish, but modern and satisfactory none-the-less. I wasn't too keen on the liquid soap dispensers in the bathroom, but others were.

We didn't eat in the restaurant, but found the food in the bar to be of poor quality (obviously bought in pre-prepared and microwaved) and over priced. There was a limited choice of beers in the bar too: all fizzy keg stuff at around £3.50 a pint.

We were there on a "Gentleman's Cultural Trip", and found the hotel suited our needs very well. Many of the other guests seemed to be on similar types of trip, so the bar was busy until 3.00 in the morning. Our neighbours returned to their room at 6.00 am! Consequently, some noise in corridors is to be expected, at least at weekends, and for this reason I don't think that I'd recommend the hotel for parties with young children or the elderly.

We stayed for 2 nights at the Jurys Inn, Edinburgh in Dec 2007. Location was fantastic. A couple of minutes walk you are on the Royal Mile, or at the train station or on Princes Street. The airport buses stop on Waverley bridge so it was also convenient for this reason.

We checked in with no problems and were greeted with a clean and modern room. Our room overlooked the back of the hotel but this was not an issue as there are still some nice buildings that you can see. The only problem we found was the noise levels at night. People walking from the Royal Mile down onto Jeffrey Street in the early hours woke us up at times.

The room had everything we could have wanted. The only down side was no biscuits to go with the tea making facilities! Big thumbs up was the fluffy blankets to go on the bed. Lovely and soft. We would love to have bought one if we knew where they were from.

We didn't use the bar or restaurant and chose to eat breakfast away from the hotel. There are lots of places nearby selling breakfast. The breakfast at the Royal McGregor was very nice (they can be found at 154 High Street, Royal Mile).

The staff we encountered at the hotel were friendly and helpful.

Big thumbs up to this hotel. Would definitely recommend it to others.

My husband and I stayed at Jurys Hotel Edinburgh for one evening as we had arranged to see a show at The Playhouse.
The hotel exceeded our expectations. The location was perfect as it was close to Waverley Station as well as being within close walking distance to most city centre attractions, cafes, bars and restaurants.
The hotel reception staff were efficient and friendly as were the bar, restaurant and cleaning staff.
The bedrooms were clean and modern with soft furnishings in warm terracota tones with beechwood coloured furniture.
We loved the bar which had an Irish pub theme. The buffet breakfast was vey good. The ccoked items were fresh and ungreasy. The croissants were lovely. The fruit salad was not so good as it seemed to be made up from a mixture of tinned fruits.
All in all, we were quite satisfied with this hotel and we would definately stay here again in the future.
If any of the management read this view, I would like to say thank you for a lovely stay.

Stayed at a few Jurys Inn this year and they all have been good. Best to use Jurys own website for making any bookings as you might just drop on a deal. My only disappointment about the Jurys Inn chain is that I think that breakfast should be included in the price. Other than that I can't fault it.
