We chose this hotel for its central location and, to that end, the hotel does not disappoint. Everything else is a different matter entirely!
The room we were shown to (409) was small with dated decor and had an overpowering chemical smell when we went in. View from window was good. The bathroom was dirty and sheets felt rough and stiff from over-starching. We went down to reception to complain and request a room change. On leaving the room we noticed the door didn't actually close...maybe this is why there is a notice on the wall of the room warning guests not to leave money and valuables in the room! We were moved to room 427 which was a little bigger but had same smell and a view of a bricked up wall. Obviously all rooms are of a similar poor standard. Giving it up as a bad job we left for a day in the city. Returned for a shower before evening at a concert. Hairs in bath. Mildewed shower curtain that is too far over the bath so sticks to your skin! Horrible. On our way out there was a dreadful smell in the corridor I daren't even write what I suspect it was.
That night the noise from the street was awful- drunks screaming, cars driving really fast up and down the cobbled road below, police sirens. The bed was not a standard size double and there was a single bed in the room too. Why not just put in one good size bed?! My husband is 6'2" and was very uncomfortable. I barely slept and just wanted to go home. You can check out as late as noon but we were gone by 9.
I would never return to this dump and suggest others keep a safe distance.
