I stayed at this hotel in a standard double room with my boyfriend for two nights which we booked approx 1 month in advance through the hotel themselves. The property is roughly a 10min brisk walk from the city centre alothough there are plenty of taxis in the area which are raesonable.

The front of house staff are extremely friendly and happy to help you book a table, call a taxi or bring anything and everything up to your room at no additional cost.

The hotel and rooms themselves are querky and well equiped with shampoo/conditioner/shower gel and bathrobes. The view is lovely and the area is very quiet at all times of day and night. There was a party going on while we stayed however we couldn't hear anything in our room on the second floor.

The continetal breakfast is extremely good although cooked options are pricey and the staff had a tendency to ignore us and tend to other guests at times which was irritating.

I disagree with the previous review about the temperature as our room was boiling at times although this was more than welcome after a cold day exploring the city.

Overall I think our stay was worth the money we paid (£120 per night) and the hotel is very chic however I would be reluctant to pay the 'on the night' rate of £215 for a standard double.

  • Liked — interesting room layout, views, breakfast
  • Disliked — lack of attention from waiting staff at breakfast

This hotel is living on its reputation which is a pity because it's not cheap.

Front of house staff are great and get top marks

Our room, a superior double, was in need of refurbishment. The heating wasn't efficient enough to heat a room with very high ceilings. Badly chipped paint and black marks round the shower. Also in the bathroom the grouting had parted company with the floor tiles. Corridors leading to our room were tatty.

Breakfast was not good. One morning we had to send breakfast back twice until we got what we'd ordered. Didn't use the restaurant - well would you trust a kitchen that can't make toast?

Good TV and radio choices and a big, comfortable bed.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 days, the service and staff were excellent, they were extremely helpful, nothing seemed to much trouble, we had a suite which overlooked the front, which was very quiet, food in the room and resuarant was fantastic, would highly recommend and will definately be back.

My girlfriend booked a surprise weekend away for us both in December 2007 and we were both pleasantly surprised at the hotel when we arrived.

Our room was fantastic! Very large and the view was brilliant. We were situated in the room with a bay window directly above the conference suite. Loved the size of the bed (very comfy) and the little touches such as the Molton Brown shower gel and shampoo.

The hotel was about a 10-15 minute walk (I was not sad enough to time it - sorry!) from Prince's Street which wasn't a problem at all. In fact, it was peacfully quiet due to the location.

We were both fortunate enough to be in Edinburgh on St Andrew's Day and the Christmas spirit was well and truly magical. There was a German market on at the time as well as an open-air Christmas Carol Concert which was brilliant.

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and the food was brilliant. I had the full Scottish breakfast, which consisted of a mini-haggis, sausages, bacon, black pudding, tomato and your choice of egg. There was also a vegetarian option available which my girlfriend tells me was nice! Didn't stay for an evening meal in the hotel as we never see the point of travelling all the way to Edinburgh to then eat in the hotel when there are so many other places to visit! We ate at The Atrium on Cambridge Street and the food was fantastic, although a little pricey.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody wanting to stay in Edinburgh!

We booked the hotel about one month before visiting it after reading your reviews on it. The room was very modern and all that you could have wanted was there. The bed was very comfortable and they gave you a small rug to wrap up in which was great when watching the T.V. if you didn't want to get into bed. The bathroom was spotless and came with two bathrobes plus Molton Brown shampoo and soap. You could sign on to the internet in yoour room and reception where only to happy to help when we needed printouts of our book in on line flight confirmation. We really enjoyed our weekend in Edinburgh and didn't think the hotel, which was about 10 minutes walk from Princes Street, was to far to walk. It was set in a very peaceful area. We booked via the airline BMI and paid £200 for two nights B & B. The breakfast was very good. We didn't have to pay extra for it but I thought it was on the expensive side at £11.50 for the full breakfast .

  • Liked — Very nice decore and comfortable bed.
  • Disliked — Expensive breakfast if you had to pay for it.
