We stayed in the Sempill Suite for two nights to celebrate my 30th birthday and our 9th wedding anniversary. The suite was gorgeous and the bathroom and bedroom were both enormous. We also had a reception room, kitchen, sitting room and long hallway leading to the bedroom. The best bits were the champagne (you get a bottle for each night of your stay - plus fresh choccie truffles and cookies!), the massive roll rop bath and the breakfast. The breakfast it bought to your room each day in a large open whicker basket - you choose what you want the night before and hang your selection on your door ready to be collected. You can choose the time you want it delivered (upto 10:30 am) and whether you want it unpacking or not. The food supplied on both mornings was delicious (especially the bowl of porridge which could have easily fed two people!), and the two croissants and two pan au chocolat were lovely and fresh. We also actually got five cups of coffee from the pot they gave us! They definately give you enough breakfast to feed an army and you could get by perfectly without having any lunch! The only downside to the whole experience was that on the last night, the people in the suite upstairs were moving around and being noisy ALL night (and you can hear everything). I managed to get two hours sleep just before it was time to get up! However, all in all it was a great experience and definately recommended for a special occasion.

  • Liked — Very gothic and romantic. The breakfast. The champers.
  • Disliked — The noise on the second night

We stayed here as a surprise for my husband's 40th birthday and it was just wonderful. Worth every penny, and no downsides at all. We were in the armoury suite and loved the 4 poster bed, the tv that comes out of the ottoman and all the little extras. Many thanks to the staff for this amazing experiance, can't wait for the next special occasion to go celebrate here again.

A trip to Edinburgh would not be complete without a trip to the Witchery! The Witchery truly delivered, and the shining star, and complete credit to the establishment is the magnificent Roxy! If you miss the pleasure of meeting Roxy, you simply must go back! The room (Guard Room) was everything we expected, and then some...I'm sure you've read about the Pol Roger, decadent cookies, truffles, and little gold box of what I think was traditional tablet wrapped with a lovely tartan ribbon on the bed. The thoughtfulness put into the Witchery is indescribable. The location simply can't be beat, and you must experience the Witchery at least once in your lifetime! The only disappointment was the 3:00 a.m. ghost that did not make his presence known to us. Roxy, I wish I was your sister from Sligo, she is truly one lucky girl.... Thanks for everything!

We were looking for a romantic, different setting for an anniversary weekend.... and found it in the Witchery.
We stayed in the Guardsroom and to say it was overwhelming is/was an understatement. From the entrance to the bedroom this is one experience that you don't want to miss. The room was fantastic and I think the word k theatrical would do it justice. From the kitchen to the bathroom and to the room that you are served your breakfast in - unbelievable !!! Value for money, maybe not but value for experience - you could probably not beat it. Like previous comments I found the Witchery resturant expensive and could not say I got value for money. Having said that there are plenty of resturants nearby at a fraction of the price with as good a selection so you would be doing yourself an injustice not to have a look around (Du Pres and the wee windaes both on the Royal mile spring to mind). This is not a place for families although there is plenty of room for more than 2 !!!! But more of an experience and as such if that is what you are expecting you will not be disappointed.

  • Liked — The experience - it is something that you need to experience once in a lifetime
  • Disliked — Lightening dim but you could not make it brighter (suppose that has to do with the theatrics of it ) Toiletries - for the bath shower they were attached to a wall about arms length from the bath !!! Bit strange given the price you were paying for the room !! And parking - the nearest is about 1/2 a mile down the road and it is a long journey up the hill to get to there. Would advise taking a taxi !

I could write a book on how fab this place is but I havent got the time!! We stayed in The Armoury Suite and it really is pure luxury, total decadence, and rollling in romance!!!

Champagne and cookies wawited us when we arrived and what can I say about Roxy, he's a complete star! I have to say he added a lot to the total package, and loved chatting with him.

He even supplied bandages and pain killers to me as I had a fall on the first night while out for dinner.

If there is one place to stay for romance and fabulousity you have to stay here, its expensive but very very worth it!

Planning our return trip as i type!
