My brand-new wife and I stayed here on the first night of our honeymoon in Edinburgh - we would have stayed for longer but we just couldn't afford it! The weather was awful but that simply gave us an excuse to luxuriate in our surroundings in the Library Suite, and luxuriate we did! Time stood still as we took in the splendour of it all, from the wonderful (if jarringly modern) kitchen, to the amazing bathroom with its underfloor heating, 2-person bath and scrumptious selection of toiletries! In trying to describe how wonderful it all was, I find myself rapidly running out of superlatives - this is quite simply the most magnificent hotel we have ever stayed in without exception. The bed was huge, and hugely comfortable too, and the TV and DVD player hidden in the red leather chest at the end of the bed was a lovely touch. The outside world just didn't exist. We could have stayed there in that one room for a week and never gotten tired of it.
The extremely friendly and helpful staff also deserve a mention. They couldn't do enough for us, we were treated like royalty the whole time, and they all deserve immense praise for their friendliness and professionalism.
We recreated the evening when we got engaged at the Witchery by having dinner in the Secret Garden, and once again words fail me. The food is simply superb and the waiting staff are without exception the best in the business - attentive without being overly fussy.
Breakfast in our room the next morning was also a huge treat. Forget about a fry-up - the continental breakfast, brought to your room in a huge hamper, was fantastic. There's fresh orange juice, wonderful coffee and tea, cereals, luxury jams and marmalades and the most delicious brioche I have ever tasted.
Over the next few years, we plan to stay in each of the 7 rooms in the Witchery at least once, and I can't wait to go back!
