My husband and I stayed in The Vestry Suite in May 2005. We had terrible weather the whole trip but being able to sip champagne in the wonderful red gothic suite more than made up for it. The atmosphere was a touch spooky and I must admit to having to sleep with a little light on !
The food in the restaurant was excellent and so nice to have good fresh Scottish produce. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the oysters while I loved the trout. We both tucked into the steak which was perfectly done. Pudding wasnt great but my husbands cheese board was the much better choice. All in all a fantastic stay and I know a little sad but we thought the toiletries were fab and have even tried to buy them over the internet since - to no avail ! Afterall its the little things that count........

Stayed @ the hotel and ate at the restaurant. Had to book 6 months in advance, which just added to the excitement. The hotel lives up to its name. The staff were extremely approachable (the owner's Mum works on reception) and accomodating. All of the rooms were gorgeous; the cleaner let us look @ them all because everyone had checked out apart from us who were still packing. It is in a perfect location. The restaurant was beautiful, huge (but unintmidating wine list £20 - £500 bottle) and the food was extremely good (especially the desserts).

Can't wait to go again. We stayed @ the Sheraton the night after (same price) and realised that we had been spoiled by the decor / ambience and romance of the Witchery. Puts all other hotels to shame. (Especially loved the remote control ottoman with the tv and dvd player inside.)

Booked the inner sanctum for my partners birthday, had eaten in the secret garden before and the whitchery was as good. The suite itself was magical, everything was just perfect, loved all the artefacts to play with. If your looking for the romantic place this is it, will be working our way through all the rooms.

the witchery is the place to stay if your into romance. the suites are wonderful. hugh four poster beds, baths big enough for two and loads
of great antiques. the staff where very friendly but not intrusive and go out of there way to make sure you enjoy your stay. we ate in one of the two restaurants and the food was to die for. we where served continental breakfast in our suite the next morning. and there was enough to feed an army. we enjoyed our stay so much we are returning this year for our wedding anniversary and I cant wait.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Inner Sanctum and the Armoury suites at the Witchery. They are both excellent and rather large suites, full of atmosphere. (Try closing the doors to the ante room of the armoury - big surprise there).

Admittedly not everything in the suites are up to scratch; particularly the squeakiness of the antique cabinet used to house the Inner Sanctum's TV. This is more a case of an antique behaving like its age however, and really no biggie. As if people stay at The Witchery to watch TV.

In our last visit to the Witchery a year ago, its restaurant served meager rations of incredible food. This year however, the same quality is retained but with more value for money. The restaurant is expensive though, but the food is worth it.

The breakfast served at the restaurant is good, but the continental breakfast served at your suite is clearly the way to go. Exquisite yoghurt among other things, in portions that Luther Vandross couldn't handle.

Finally, I'd like to mention the staff. Not pretentious at all, they were brilliant at their work and even a little chatty if you want to talk to them. If you're a generous tipper, you'll have to chase them down in order to give them your change; they run away instead of expecting anything.

Basically the hotel is just a great backdrop for your fantasies, and you'll want to keep coming back.
