Smart city centre hotel located just off the top end of Princes Street, near Edinburgh Castle.
My room (302) was perfectly adequate: clean, good temperature control, decent pressure in the shower etc etc.
Breakfast was of a high standard and included a good selection of all the usual fare. There's a chef on hand to whip up freshly made egg concoctions... a welcome relief from the congealed scrambled offering which is so common. The restaurant has good views across the plaza to Edinburgh Castle.
On the whole all staff with whom I came into contact were friendly and helpful. One exception: the girl on reception in the morning (7:15am) made me wait for 15 minutes whilst she discussed the possible location of a missing resident with a waiting taxi driver. This was very frustrating as I was in a hurry.
I was staying at the hotel for a conference so unfortunately did not have the time to sample the spa. Conference facilities were fine. Food at the mass catering dinner in the evening (200+ guests) was of a very impressive standard.
Negative point is that the size of the place renders the hotel quite an impersonal place to stay (appreciate that some may see this as an advantage!).
