Stayed at the Sheraton Grand for a weekend break (Fri-Sun) and the excellent spa makes it the perfect place to unwind...along with Edinburgh's attractions and atmosphere as a city.

The Spa is first class - extremely well equipped, superb staff, clean and well maintained. Small wonder that it has been named Best City Spa by Conde Nast on more than one occasion. It helps to turn this hotel into something a bit more special.

As for the hotel itself, we had a suite on the 7th floor. A little frayed around the edges, to be honest, and with a disappointing bathroom, but no major complaints.

Location of the hotel is excellent, but rooms facing Festival Square can be noisy late at night.....sound proofing not up to scratch perhaps?

Staff at reception very efficient, and the room service breakfast/service can't be faulted.

Where it not for the spa, the Sheraton Grand itself might not score so well. But the combination is hard to beat if you're looking for a relaxing spa weekend in a city rather than rural environment.

The receptionist was very helpful, and it hotel was massive, the room was nice, could of done with a little updating, the best thing about the whole hotel was the bed it was amazing!!

The breakfast was excellent, and the location was good to.

This Hotel is in an excellent location and good views of the castle are availalbe in certain rooms. The Spa facility is excellent, I would say one of the best in europe at a Hotel. The food in the hotel is reasonable although I would say you would be better going out to somewhere like the The Tower.

We had a real mixed bag of feelings while staying at this hotel. The room was fine. Clean and pleasant enough. However, there was one problem I found completely unsatisfactory. Listen to this. The plug in the sink in the bathroom can only be engaged by putting your hand into the sink and fiddling with the plug. "It is a design fault", I was told, when I asked about this at the reception. Now, I'm not the most fussy person in the world, but to be asked to feel about in dirty water to empty the sink is totally unacceptable, especially given the rates.

The location is infuriating as well. The hotel is in the city centre, but requires a taxi ride to most places. In short, its not a great location.

The staff were friendly, though.

The walls are paper thin, and there was significant noise from the corridor. Enough for you to notice.

We got a great rate, but would never have paid the "going rate" to stay here.

To sum up, we wouldn't return to this hotel. There are better hotels in Edinburgh for a much cheaper rate.

I visited the Sheraton in August with a friend for a Spa residential package. The Spa was wonderful and I can honestly say it is the most relaxed that I have ever felt. The girls are tactful and discreet concerning modesty and there is a shower in each treatment room allowing full privacy throughout the days treatments.

We had a snack from the bar in the Spa, the foccacia was very burnt and the cappuccinos were barely warm. We complained to the waiter (who did not have very good English) he apologised, took the sandwiches away and returned a couple of minutes later with fresh coffes that were still warm, not hot. A few minutes on he returned agein with the same sandwiches, now cold, but had some of the burnt bits scraped off!!!! We tried to explain that we found this unacceptable but the chap just couldn't understand why we were still complaining. We just gave up on that one but they had the cheek to charge us for them at check-out!!

I was a bit disappointed in the hotel, on arrival my friend and I were quite laden with bags but no one came out to help us, they do have a concierge, but I'm not quite sure what he does. We arrived a little bit late as we had difficulty tracing the car park entrance. The check in staff did very little to help us to speed things up and get to our room, this resulted in us missing part of our treatments at the Spa on our first day. The room was quite basic and we had an unsightly view accross the flat roof looking onto other bedroom windows. We requested a room change but they could not accommodate us in this respect. The hotel service was a bit disppointing but the spa was first class and I would not hesitate in recommending this to anyone, just don't dine in the spa bar.
