My partner and I have just spent 2 nights at the Sheraton Grand in Edinburgh.
On the plus side the room was clean, the bed was massive and very comfy but oddly we had two single duvets and three pillows! Not quite sure what they expected to be going on there!! The location is great for Princes Street, views of the Castle and the Old Town. Nice big robes and slippers are provided which was the only 'luxurious' touch really.
On the minus side - no free biscuits with the complimentary tea and coffee!!! The shortbread was inside the mini bar and you had to pay for it....scandalous! Had to wait for a table for breakfast which seemed to be because staff didn't know if people had left their tables to visit the buffet or had left the restaurant.
Didn't do dinner in the hotel, much prefer to find local restuarants and can recommend Petit Paris for fantastic French food less than 10 minutes away on Queensferry Road or on The Grassmarket. Did not visit the Spa, there are far more interesting things to do in Edinburgh than have your legs waxed!
All in all a pleasant stay in a nice hotel but the 'Executive' rooms are not really the 'luxurious five-star opulence' touted on their website and that (and the biscuit nonsense) is why I'm rating it average. We had a very special price through a company event so for us it was good value but if I'd paid the £150 'special offer' price they advertise I think I would be feeling very disappointed! We'd only stay there again if we got another exceptional deal.
