Stayed one night - the entrance, bar and public areas are very grand and lovely to look at, however the rooms are just OK. After staying in several 5 star hotels around the world I would not not rate the hotel rooms as 5 star. Our room was looking a little dated, the bathroom was very small with plastic mable effect sink, the bed was very comfortable and huge but with two single quilts, the view from our room was of some office blocks and a car park. The breakfast was nice - large selection, the staff were helpful however some were rather snotty! The hotel is nice but very over priced.

My wife and I found our honeymoon stay at the Sheraton very disappointing. For £340 per night we expected excellence across the board; instead we found most aspects of the hotel distinctly average. Staff were disinterested and only superficially attentive; the conceirge continuned with a personal call while I tried in vain to attract his attention; the cooks in the breakfast restaurant disappeared regularly, thwarting those who want omlettes or waffles; and the glorified "business centre" consisted of four slow and often broken-down computers, only two of which offered internet access!

None of these issues on their own amount to much; but one doesn't expect to encounter them at a 5-star hotel of a major brand chain. Though offering a great location in the centre of the city, and linked to the truly wonderful One Spa, the Sheraton in Edinburgh is anything but Grand. Save yourself a few hundred pounds and go 4-star elsewhere.

We stayed hear for the weekend and had a fantastic time hotel staff where excelent and very helpful we arrived earley and they did everything possible to get us an early check in room had a great time in the spa too I can highley recomend this hotel

We are Edinburgh residents but booked a suite here for the night after our wedding. It was not cheap and perhaps we have since been spoilt by the service we had in proper 5 star hotels in South East Asia on our honeymoon but we found the service to be poor.

We arrived in the early hours of Sunday morning- no-one greeted us or offered to help with baggage until we had checked in ( check in staff were fine, and luggage brought up to room). The room itself was spacious but decor outdated and the bathroom was 3 star quality and desperately in need of an upgrade. We ordered room service a couple of times- apart from a few inaccuracies this was fine and the service ok. The best thing about this hotel is One Spa where we spent most of the Sunday- service there was good.

The main gripe we had was to return to our room at 3.30 in time for the 4pm checkout ( which was part of the deal when booking) to snippy messages from reception telling us checkout after 12 would incur a £20 per hour charge. We phoned to remind them of the deal to be told ' oh that's right- not many people pick up on that'.

Apart from the Spa which is truly unlike anywhere else, this hotel is completely unexceptional and made us embarrassed for Scotland to think that it pretends to be top end.
