This was our first trip to Edinburgh and I wanted a great spa hotel for me and my sister. It was a lovely hotel, very scottish, nice pictures, very grand. However, I didn't really feel like it was a 5 star hotel - it's more like 4 star. The room was nice, big enough, twin beds, quite comfy actually. But the bathroom was really very average. The bath looked old and was not up to the standard it should have been. It has said somewhere that the hotel had views of the castle - but there were a great big crane in the way, so we couldn't really see much! Pity. Good location, just a short walk to the Princess gardens and then the main streets. The best part of this hotel is the spa - it truely is wonderful. We loved it! I can see why people travel to this hotel purely to use this spa. Great big pool, spa pools, an outdoor pool on the roof top (which was just amazing) - steam room, sauna etc etc - pure bliss! Another highlight was the breakfast - we loved it! Lots to choose from - bit pricey but we had it included in our deal. Aside from seeing the Edinburgh Castle, totally recommend seeing Mary Kings Close (the old haunted streets on the Royal Mile) - frightening in a fun way! Also visiting the Royal Yacht Britannia - just wonderful. All in all, a great hotel, wonderful spa, good location.

I had the misfortune of staying at the Sheraton,Edinburgh for 3 days in September 2008 on business.Considering this is a five star hotel I found the service to be very dissapointing. The hotel interior is of a good standard but where it falls short is on the experience side. What should have been a seemless 5 star experience was marred by several unpleasant experiences such as rude unhelpful staff, constantly having to re-register proof of identity at reception and the final straw having to hand in my credit card as deposit just to use the swimming pool!!Considering the fact that this stay was not cheap I left the hotel with a feeling of being very unwelcome and certainly would not return again.

We have just returned from our stay at the Sheraton - what a great hotel with exceptional service - we actually split up our stay and the first two nights we received our booked club room with a view to the castle (view was marred by construction work being done between the window and the castle) and the next stay we received an upgrade to an amazing suite with a separate living room! The cocktail hour and breakfast was included with the rooms and was very nice - met some nice couples there (mostly American) - we wish the cocktails hour included whisky but alas only wine.

The hotel is a fairly long walk from the train station - I wouldn't recommend it with heavy bags.

We wish we could have spent more than 3 nights at the hotel!

  • Liked — The upgraded suite
  • Disliked — The construction ruining the view to the castle

We had a 2 night break here to relax after a bad health scare. We booked with laterooms and paid £104 on a room only basis. The hotel is in a good location - not too far to walk to any of the places of interest. The room was OK -but by no means what I would expect from a 5 star hotel. Maybe because we were there via laterooms?? Lots of people are talking about having been given an upgrade but again maybe not us for the same reason. The bathroom again was OK but Travel Inn bathrooms are better in my opinion. Everything just looking in need of a makeover. The reception areas were lovely and the staff most helpful and polite. We had the pool to ourselves which was great. We had a tour around the Spa which looked fantastic but we weret oo busy sightseeing. All in all fine for what we paid.
