This was our first trip to Edinburgh and I wanted a great spa hotel for me and my sister. It was a lovely hotel, very scottish, nice pictures, very grand. However, I didn't really feel like it was a 5 star hotel - it's more like 4 star. The room was nice, big enough, twin beds, quite comfy actually. But the bathroom was really very average. The bath looked old and was not up to the standard it should have been. It has said somewhere that the hotel had views of the castle - but there were a great big crane in the way, so we couldn't really see much! Pity. Good location, just a short walk to the Princess gardens and then the main streets. The best part of this hotel is the spa - it truely is wonderful. We loved it! I can see why people travel to this hotel purely to use this spa. Great big pool, spa pools, an outdoor pool on the roof top (which was just amazing) - steam room, sauna etc etc - pure bliss! Another highlight was the breakfast - we loved it! Lots to choose from - bit pricey but we had it included in our deal. Aside from seeing the Edinburgh Castle, totally recommend seeing Mary Kings Close (the old haunted streets on the Royal Mile) - frightening in a fun way! Also visiting the Royal Yacht Britannia - just wonderful. All in all, a great hotel, wonderful spa, good location.
