The Royal Mile is FULL of shops to stop in for Scottish souvenirs or a quick bite to eat. Banks are all over as well if you do need to get some cash to buy something along the street. There are so many fun people and shops to visit that it could easily take you hours just looking at all the little trinkets. St. Gile's Cathedral is just beautiful to look at and if you make it to the top of Castlehill, you're able to go into Edinburgh Castle a little ways before you have to buy a ticket. At the top of Castlehill, there are some other great attractions to visit, not to mention the great views of Prince Street and the North Sea.
There always seems to be a street performer of some sort on the Royal Mile as well, usually more than one, all up and down the mile. Bagpipers, clowns, street performers of various sorts; always sure to keep you entertained somehow.
I must say, you seem so high up and the clouds seem so close. I highly recommend visiting the Royal Mile, in Edinburgh, it's a must! Even if you don't pay for any of the attractions or buy anything, there are so many beautiful buildings and closes to explore that you can't go wrong!
