“Lots of Things to See”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

The Royal Mile is FULL of shops to stop in for Scottish souvenirs or a quick bite to eat. Banks are all over as well if you do need to get some cash to buy something along the street. There are so many fun people and shops to visit that it could easily take you hours just looking at all the little trinkets. St. Gile's Cathedral is just beautiful to look at and if you make it to the top of Castlehill, you're able to go into Edinburgh Castle a little ways before you have to buy a ticket. At the top of Castlehill, there are some other great attractions to visit, not to mention the great views of Prince Street and the North Sea.

There always seems to be a street performer of some sort on the Royal Mile as well, usually more than one, all up and down the mile. Bagpipers, clowns, street performers of various sorts; always sure to keep you entertained somehow.

I must say, you seem so high up and the clouds seem so close. I highly recommend visiting the Royal Mile, in Edinburgh, it's a must! Even if you don't pay for any of the attractions or buy anything, there are so many beautiful buildings and closes to explore that you can't go wrong!

The Royal Mile is the name given to a succession of streets forming the main thoroughfare of the Old Town of the city of Edinburgh in Scotland. The name was first used in W M Gilbert's Edinburgh in the Nineteenth Century (1901), and was further popularised as the title of a guidebook, published in 1920.

“The place to be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

We rented an apartment right in the center between Holyrood and the Castle. It was so much fun to see the people on the streets, the performers, and the shops. It was my second time in Edinburgh and first stay on the Royal Mile and I would do it again.

“Gateway to better attractions”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

You will most likely end up on this road to get to many more wonderful attractions. I found the shops to be overpriced and every second one the same. Worth going down the side alleys to see the different places back in behind.
