“what's not to like!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

As always the Royal Mile is interesting to walk down, fantastic buildings, from the Castle to the Palace of Holyrood. Plenty pubs, cafes and bars and lots of people to watch. There are of course the tacky tourist shops but there are also many good quality items if you enjoy shopping.

“Royal Mile - Shopping & History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

An easy stroll following a visit to the castle with plenty of interesting history - stray off the main road to get away from all the shops and explore some of the wynds and, of course, pubs! Expect some crowds in any weather and try to steer clear of the large tour groups.

“Perfect location to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

There were so many shops, sights such as museums and a Palace and Castle at either end we found many good restaurants in the area and it made for a good walk.

“Look Beyond...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Look beyond the many, many touristy shops and soak in the architecture and the history. I suggest either reading up a bit on the history of the area or at least a brief tour to understand what you are experiencing. Do not miss Mary King's Close (hard to find, book tickets) and Gladstone's Land - two fantastic tour/museum/experiences that bring the history of the city to life! Take in the Whiskey ExperienceTour, buy cashmere or wool anything, stop to watch the buskers or just use the street to get from the Palace to the Castle, the Royal Mile has something for everyone.
