i loved the royal mile, up near the castle i visited a lovely old shop - the court curio shop, the owners were lovely and told me about the history, it has been in the family since the 1940's and you can feel the specialness of this shop. Lovely Scottish pieces. The whole street can take your imagination back to some of it's great and gruesome past...check just out side the castle for the witch burning...walk past the worlds end where the city gates were...you didn't want to be locked out! Brilliant!
There were a lot of tourist shops on the royal mile. It was a bit of a hike, but fantastic. I ate a lot of meat pies.
A must see when you are in Edinburgh! You cannot visit this historic city without experiencing this part. Many lovely cafes and speciality shops!
OK, it's touristy but you have to do it. Keep your eyes open though, between the tartan shops are wonderful things! Visit the Museum of Childhood, The People's Museum, etc. And have lunch at the best kept secret on the street - Carruthers - you need to go down the close to find it.
