I would not stay at this hotel again. For the amount of money that you pay to stay there in even a simple deluxe room, it is not worth the money.

The lobby is beautiful, but as with most hotels, that's where the beautiful ends.

Our room was very HOT. There is no air conditioning. Thankfully they provided a fan. The bathroom was nice in decoration, but the tub didn't drain well and you are standing in water when you take a shower. Our TV didn't work when we tried to turn it on and maintenance had to replace the cables to get it to work. The pillows were worn and lumpy, the sheets were scratchy and had a hole in them and the blanket had a stain. My husband was told that The New York Times was complimentary when we checked in. We received a charge for the Sunday Times because it's "larger and more expensive". Unfortunately, we weren't told this and they didn't offer to take the charge away when we told them at check out.

The Chisholm restaurant was nice and the location is great, but that wouldn't be enough for me to stay again. There's too many other options. Sorry Caledonian, but you really need to try and make your guests more comfortable for the price you make us pay.

More a 3.5 star than a 5 star; avoid Chisholms restaurant!

Just back from a weekend at the Caledonian Hotel. Its in a great location, close to both the new town and the old town. However all was not what we would have expected for a five star hotel. When we arrived at 2.30pm we were informed quite curtly and without so much as a word of apology that our room was not ready and told to come back after 3pm - not a great start! When we eventually got our room it was comfortable with a big bathroom and good shower, though despite being billed as a "deluxe" the decor was quite tired and the room overlooked a nonedescript courtyard and the back of other wings of the hotel which was disappointing. Our rate included dinner on the first night which was served in Chisholms restaurant and was VERY POOR indeed. Gristly meat, cold main courses and tasteless desserts. Breakfasts were good however. From our experience we would give the hotel a 3.5 star rather than a five star rating!

We have just returned from an overnight stay at the caledonian hilton hotel in Edinburgh. First we were extremely impressed by the location of the hotel, it is right in the middle of all the great shops pubs, restaurants and tourist attractions, also princes street gardens is just over the road, ideal for having a picnic.
We arrived a few hours earlier as the weather was good and wanted to make the most of it. We asked the concierge if we could park up in the car park around the back and he said it was ok. The car was left there for 24 hours and cost us £9.50 which we thought was good considering the prices you can be charged thats if you find a space.
The room was clean and modern but lacked A/c but they did provide a fan which helped as it was hot when we stayed there.
The leisure centre was ok but the pool was small and filled up quickly especially before breakfast so go after if you can.
Breakfast was really good and we didnt have to wait to be seated. We were waited on for coffee toast and juices but helped ourselves to cooked meals, cereals and fresh fruit. We would definately recommend the bar on a night as it wasnt too busy and was relaxing, with good service.
Overall we thought the staff were very polite friendly and helpful and the view from our room was to die for. We definately recommend spending the extra money on a castle view, you wont be disappointed.

We loved the location and the staff were wonderful. But no A/C, even in Edinburgh, in August is uncomfortable. Kudos to the hotel for having fans in the rooms.

There can be no better place to stay in Edinburgh. The views are spectacular, the hotel's decor is classic Scottish, the rooms are very large and comfortable, and the staff was extremely helpful.
