After a 4pm arrival and finding our room was not ready (though check-in was 3pm) I did wonder if 5 * was what we had come to. However, when an alternative room was offered immediately and we opened the door any misgivings were quashed.
Our room had large twin beds and the room had views of Edinburgh Castle.
I asked for a quiet room and we were not disappointed. The breakfast buffet catered for all tastes- in fact I think we were the only Scots in the dining room. Making your own toast is definitely preferable to receiving cold toast served beautifully by a waitress. The staff were all very professional and attentive. I myself am familiar with several high class establishments and would have no hesitation in recommending this as a fabulous place to stay. Perhaps some foreign visitors should visit our Scottish hotels with less pre-conceived ideas and just enjoy what we have to offer.
This is a really interesting hotel to stay in - full of character and in a fantastic location. We were upgraded to a castle view room, which was really comfortable and very spacious.
Staff were uniformly helpful and pleasant with no "hinting for a tip" as described in other reviews. Breakfast buffet good - as it is in all the Hiltons.
The Caledonian Hilton is probably one of the best hotels I have stayed in. The staff are fantastic, they really make you feel at home and nothing is too much trouble. We took dinner in both restaurants and could not fault the food or the service. I would highly recommend a visit to this hotel - pure luxury!
Superb location, quite safe to walk around late at night from bars, resturants etc. Hotel lobby/bar was great, as you would expect from a Hilton hotel. Room was a bit rough around the edges, very nice bathroom, windows were old and would not shut properly, being February it was very cold and you could feel the wind coming through. I would stay at this hotel again, purely for the location. If travelling from edinburgh airport, take the airort shuttle bus to waverly station. It is only ?4 return and the bus stops right outside the hotel.
