Stayed in room 216 for several nights in November. Absolutely fabulous. This is a large suite room with sitting area and two Queen size beds. The bath area was also just beautiful. The room was like having my own apartment and had a fabulous view of the castle. I loved sitting watching sunsets from my sitting area!

My dad was just down the hall in a King room. While much smaller, it still had a good sized bath area and lovely view. We ate at the hotel several times in both the prix fixe menu restaurant (Pompadour) which was very good. Chisholms was also excellent in menu, but the service was a little annoying.

Loved the server Andrew in the afternoons at the bar who was most helpful in suggesting whiskys for my dad and bringing out shortbread and tea for me!

For those wishing to stay here... understand they have recently renovated all the rooms & they are just beautiful. But you must also know that in a very old building there are a variety of types of rooms and sizes. If you are going to spend the money to go to a hotel with such a fabulous location and amenities you will most likely pay for that as well.

That said, I would highly recommend this hotel for those who are not on a budget. You won't regret it!

This is a 5 star hotel with 2 star rooms. The entrance, bar and dining are all fab. The pool area is small and a bit disapointing - there was a dirty plaster and broken cup on the poolside throughout our 2 night stay! We were extremely dissapointed with the standard of our room. We decided to book this hotel for our anniversary break in favour of many others because we had stayed at this hotel before and knew that it was something special. We booked the hotel on line as we had done previously and expected that we would be allocated a room of similar standard to that which we had before. We were quite shocked to discover that the hotel has rooms like the one we were given. It was very clean and modern looking but extremely small (in fact we had to squeeze passed each other!) and lacked any character, luxury or charm that we had experienced in the past. In fact we may as well have been staying in a TRAVEL LODGE (an expensive one at that!) After the dissapointment of this I very much doubt that we will be returning to this hotel again, Our family regularly use Hilton for business and for pleasure but we will be thinking carefully before we use Hilton hotels again.

Have stayed her a number of times. Grand hotel with fairly good service. Rooms highly variable; have had a small room overlooking an internal courtyard, a tiny room in the attic with a window about the size of a piece of A3 paper overlooking the castle and this time a huge room at the back.

The problem this time was the absolutely glacial temperature in the room. It had high ceilings and large windows; they had left an electric heater in the room but it was so cold when I arrived that I would have not have been able to remain in it for the evening.

That's about it really. Pay attention to which room you get given!

Fair price to pay for a double: £100-140 excl breakfast, depending on the room

  • Liked — Grandeur, location
  • Disliked — Some rooms pokey. Room this time extremely cold

On arrival we were advised we had to pay a supplement for the children but were given an upgrade to a recently refiurbished room on the fifth floor. What a room or should I say rooms. The bathroom was huge, there was a seperate utility room and the bedroom was massive with 2 double beds, chairs ,desk ,sofa etc etc.. We used the pool and spa which the children really enjoyed. Staff were lovely and breakfast was to die for!!!. If I had lots of money I would come back regularly as it was a bit pricey but well worth it for a special occassion. Families wishing to visit should request room 539, fab!
