I had a facial here at the beginning of October 2008. I was booked in for a facial, scalp massage and back massage, which should have been 90 minutes. I was very unhappy with the treatment.

Firstly, after I was settled on the bed the therapist had to move me to put the correct towels on the bed and then she had to adjust her chait. All of this should have been done beforehand. It was not at all relaxing to have this going on during my treatment time.

The facial itself was very poor. It felt like she didn't want to touch me such that I could hardly feel her hands on my face. At no point during the facial did she do anything that felt really good. When she put the hot towels on my face she even pressed on my eyes and dragged the towels UPWARDS, which was really uncomfortable.

I didn't feel anything during the scalp massage. This was supposed to be a pressure point massage but I only sometimes felt my hair mocing about and never even felt the therapist's fingers on my scalp. I was very glad when shes said that somebody else would come in to do my back massage.

I have to say that, Anouska, who did the back massage was really very good and put a lot of effort in. I was very pleased with that part.

However, I only had about 75 minutes of actual therapy, the rest was left for me to get undressed, etc.

I was very disappointed and for 70 pounds I expect something a LOT better.

The facial was one of the worst I've ever had.

I booked through "last min . com" under the secret location hotels. I knew i wanted 5* city centre, with spa and pool.

I booked the secret location hotel at a price of £140 for a double classic room. (2 adults)

I also requested a great view when booking.

To my delight the Cale Hilton was the hotel!
i saved a massive £140!!! the rooms are around £280 when booking through the hilton website!!!

We arrived and were told we had a view of the castle, that we did - it was fantastic, the room was clean and modern - everythng i wanted for my birthday.

We went for a swim and sauna in the hotels health club before dinner.

we did not have anything to eat in the hotel.

check out was a 12pm the next day. i am never ready and always get charged late checkout! we checked out at 1245 and did not get charged - GREAT!!!

i thought this hotel was defo worth the money and had a fab sleep!!!

We stayed there as a treat for a girlfriend getaway and to explore Edinburgh; this hotel is close to clubs and shops. I had booked a twin room Executive Studio style, and was assured at reception that this was a newly refurbished room; but when I got to the room there was a double bed with no view and dirty windows, so would expected better from the Hilton.

I called reception to check our booking and they said they had no other rooms available, so I went down to reception with my reservation details and they got the supervisor whom allocated a new room (the one we ordered) with two double beds and a castle view. Finally we could settle. I didn’t try the restaurants, breakfast was nice and chef will do an omelette to you’re choice.

The Caley Bar, which has a wide range of whisky’s to try start at £5.00 to £225.00. There is also Henry Beans down on the side of the hotel and at the time of stay there was a 2 for 1 drink offer if you put the drinks on the hotel bill. Quite a lively place, so not so good if you would like somewhere quieter.

Visit the castle while you are there, it’s worth it, and if you can book the tickets before arriving as the queue’s can take an hour, it is advisable. Plenty of museums to visit to suit all.

Having read several reviews of the hotel, I was vary of booking this hotel and initilly wanted to book a different one. After talking to the excellent in house reservations team, i decided to book a room for a special occasion in the Caledonian hotel. We booked a double deluxe room for 2 nights with Castle View. The view was spectacular, however, I did not like the aspect of being overlooked by an entire office! The head receptionist showed me other rooms but on seeing them and their small beds, | decided we'd atsy where we were at the end of the corridor. We had superb castle views (albeit from a distance!)

The room was comfortable and spacious with a comfortable, if noisy, bed, with views of the castle.

Dinner, which for the 1st night, was included in our rate was ok. Breakfast was good with excellent choices and even included haggis.

Reception couldn't have been more helpful and all of the staff we encountered were lovely. The health club was grotty and dirty and would benefit from a refurb!

All dealings with reception and the concierge went smoothly, no complaints at all.

Hope this helps and hope the Caledonian listen to the reviews and redo the hotel as really it is faded grandeur on a large scale although I do feel awful saying that.....................

As many reviewers have stated do not get a room at the back of the hotel. Unfortunately being a very late check-in due to problems at Heathrow I had little choice. When I specifically requested to not have a room at the back I was assured that I was being given a very nice room and no mention was made of the fact that it was still at the back. This attitude of complacency towards the customer was evident throughout the hotel and reflected how British hotels used to be twenty years ago. Despite being on the fifth floor and in a superior room in the bedroom the unmistakable noise of a fan unit outside could be heard all night. Whilst the hotel has been renovated the chipped sink and other slighty tatty features let the room down. The size of my room was generous with a large bathroom. Internet usage was charged for at a considerable daily tarriff.

Breakfast was disappointing in that the fruit was out of tins rather than fresh and the staff were surly.

In terms of location this hotel is excellent and certainly the building has character and a strong Scottish feel to it. It is just a shame that it has not managed to come into the 21st century in terms of service and quality.
