Have just returned from a great stay here and the one major item that stood out for us was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they simply could not do enough for us.
The castle view rooms are decent and the inclusive meal plan is worth doing as the restaurant is of a very high standard. The bar is also good (although a little pricey) with an impressive drinks list.
Would return again for sure as our very enjoyable stay here was pretty hard to fault .
We have just returned from a weekend in the"Caley" & it nice to see a hotel who will not let there standards fall.
We were in Edinburgh for a wedding & we was fortanate to stay in the hotel which also layed on the wedding reception.
Both our stay & the reception was 1st class - the room we had was of a high standard & had every comfort you require.
I will be more than happy to recommend the Hilton Caliedoian & iwould like to say a big thank you to the staff for looking after us
We booked a 2 night package for 2 people b & b at £229 in total including dinner on the first night. The hotel is on Princes Street right in the middle of Edinburgh, about 15 mins walk from Waverley station. Very grand in appearance. The interior is absolutely magnificent in its Victorian elegance. There is a free leisure club with gym and pool. The Pompadour restaurant is on the first floor overlooking the castle and Princes Street through enormous arched windows. The food is superb if a little expensive but this is a top class location. The service was excellent to a fault. A little too fussy and over staffed for my liking. BTW "free" the dinner on the first night really means £20 each towards the meal. It's unlikely that you'll stay within the £20 allowance. There's also a bistro style restaurant but we didn't use it. There's an excellent Italian restaurant just round the corner called La Piazza. The concierge was very helpful. The room was very clean and well appointed. Everything worked perfectly and the bed was very large and comfortable. Our room looked out over the car park which was very quiet but a bit disappointing as some rooms had views of the castle.
We stayed at the Caledonian for 2 nights mid october in a King Hilton Suite. We travelled to the hotel by car and parked it in the hotel car park at a cost of £9.50 per 24hrs.
It is a very Grand hotel, with long wide corridors and large grand staircase. It has also kept alot of it's original features and grandeur.
Check in went smooth and fairly quickly. Our room was on the second floor with spectacular views of Edinburgh castle. As it was a suite is was a large room with seperate sitting room. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Bathrobes and slippers were also provided. The room was very clean and fresh fruit had been left on the table for us to enjoy. The only down site of the room was that it can be quite noisy with people and traffic from the street below, but i suppose this is what you have to expect from having a prime location in the city.
The food was excellent. Breakfast has a choice of fruit, bread, cereal or cooked scottish breakfast. Everything was fresh. The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpfull. Dinner was also good but the only problem we had was that the menu for the second night was the same as the first, and it wasnt a big choice. But food quality was excellent. We decided to eat in the hotel bar on the 2nd night, The Caley, which claims to have 232 different kinds of whisky to try. Again the food was good.
The leisure facilities are good, but not great. The pool is pretty small, but was never busy when we were there. The gym is also small and a bit dated.
All in all, we had an excellent 2 nights in this 5* hotel.
