Stayed for two nights at the end of September on Hilton rewards and the hotel was very good. We arrived late and check in was easy, the hotel bar had a good atmosphere and the room was fine. The outside of the hotel and the inside public space felt very grand, with a large sweeping staircase and large corridors on the floors. It is nice to stay in a hotel like this given most of the ones I stay in are modern and pretty much the same inside. The breakfast was pretty good, with a large enough choice, particularly with the cooked breakfast.

The location of the hotel was also pretty good, being slap bang in the main shopping area of the town and close to plenty of bars and restaurants. This meant it was a bit of a hike up the hills to the tourist parts of the city but that was no bother for us. The hotel staff were also very friendly and happy to help which is what you would expect, but I don't always find this to be the case of course.

The only negative point was the bed which was a bit soft and creeky for me, but that is only a minor gripe and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is staying in Edinburgh.

  • Liked — Friendly staff and a feeling of being in a grand hotel with a bit of history behind it.
  • Disliked — The soft and creeky beds!

I was here on business. The checkin didn't go off well, but the rest of the stay was excellent.

I had a larger room facing the castle, if noise bothers you, you may not want to stay on that side. I loved listening to all the activity. The city is great, so this hotel adds a great dimension.

The room I had was large and the bed comfortable. It may have been an executive room.

The gym was in the basement, but had great equipment and excellent staff to assit.

The conference rooms were large and had very tastful designs.

The breakfast in the morning was excellent, there was a wide variety of food and the staff was very responsive.

The location is great, most sites are in a walking distance. There is even a casino next door.

I would recommend this hotel.

was a beautiful hotel depsite some service issues. room was not ready so had to waste time instead of catching up on sleep. our room had no spare room to put your luggage. felt like we in the broom closet. our window was at the 14 foot ceiling so it felt like we were in a basement. no view. a broom closet made into the budget room. felt like since i got a deal of the century on the internet that we were maed to suffer for it by being in the worst room of the hotel. staff would not nor could not print a reciept for us? go figure. other customers complaining of no heat in room. too busy catering to big group of doctors in town to golf.
no restroom for woman to use that was within walking distance. only a convenient mens' room. stuffy.

  • Liked — great location
  • Disliked — small roon with no window you could reach or look out of. price. lack of service.

The Hilton Hotel is of a good standard, Hilton class with very good service, the Pompadour restaurant served a very good dinner on both consecutive nights.

Beware do not book castle view rooms on Friday Saterday night stays, stay away from street side rooms we suffered from sleep deprivation on two consecutive nights from 1am until 4.00am it was truly horrendous, shouting and traffic. We asked to be moved to a high level room and moved quickly for the secound night this was little better.

Dont do it ! until this hotel invests in high quality internal double glazing stay away from Castle view rooms. Mid week may be ok.

Take a trip with Scots line tours to loch lowman ask for driver Fred, great day.

  • Liked — position nice building and decor
  • Disliked — noise from street terrible

We stayed at the hotel for the weekend and had four rooms between our party. We arrived on the sleeper train and were allowed to check in straight away despite being 7.30 am! One of the rooms (65) was much larger and more spacious than the other three, but quite noisy. All were clean and had very comfy beds.

All the rooms looked over the carpark, but as we booked a cheap deal it was what we expected. There was a good gym and swimming pool complex.

The hotel is well located for the shops, castles and resturants - and within walking distance of Murrayfield.

All the staff we dealt with were very friendly and the hotel had a cosy, traditional feel. I would be happy to stay there in the future.
