“New Menu - give it a try”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

This is off the beaten track a little as you enter through an office block however it’s not just a Theatre venue with a well stocked bar the food is great as well. It does not have an extensive menu but it is diverse enough to cover a range of tastes and serves good quality, fresh, reasonably priced food in hearty portions. Food is served all day which is handy and I have been twice recently pre concert and for lunch and it was not overly busy, the really nice thing about this place however is the attentive service - the staff are genuinely interested which is refreshing. Because of the type of licence they have teenagers are welcome even for just a drink until 10pm! A refreshing change from bars in the area e.g. All Bar One that requested we leave with our 14 & 17 year old at 5pm. I would keep this place in mind if you are hungry when in the Lothian Road area!

“Edgy Edinburgh.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

Perhaps doesn't look quite as hip as it used to (when does post modern end?) but still one of the best places to visit for an alternative view of Edinburgh. the home of new writing and one of the best bars in the city. There's a great buzz here between and after acts in the intimate theatres downstairs.

Hard to believe the Traverse moved to its present location 20 years ago and even harder to believe it turns 50 in 2013. Though, lets not be ageist. As Shirley McLean is supposed to have said when she was complimented on looking good for her advanced years: "This is how 50 looks!"

“Theatre at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

This regional theatre will give you thought provoking theatre AND it curates all FRINGE shows and it your best bet for Fringe performances. The tickets sell fast so book TRAVERSE Fringe shows early!

“Great for a night chatting with friends”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

The basement bar of The Traverse theatre has been a great place for a night with friends - we've been going for something like 20 years. good selection of drinks, average (for Edinburgh) prices, good bar snacks/meals and usually interesting art or photography on display. If there is a busy show on at The Traverse theatre itself, then be prepared for a real crush before and after the show and during the intermission.

“Underwhelming theatre cafe”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

The Traverse plays are often world class, but the same can not be said for its restaurant. The menu is limited and dull, the sevice slow, and the cafe space sticks with the 'dull' theme. Dark, dingy and uncomfortable.
