Gives a real insight into life in Georgian Edinburgh. Interesting short introductory video in the basement, with friendly and helpful volunteers in each room.
Free admission if you're a National Trust member in England.

“Loved this attraction!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

I really enjoyed being able to go from room to room at my own speed. In each room was a friendly, knowledgeable volunteer who was happy to answer any question I could throw at them! I asked one lady about a woman in a painting, and with the help of a handy reference book for all the paintings in the house, she filled me in on her married name, family circumstances, and other things. This attraction does a great job of making sure their volunteers have access to information when needed - and the visitors as well.

“Must-do Visit in Edinburgh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

This house is well worth visiting. We were greeted warmly by friendly and efficient staff and, although they did try to sell NTS memberships, once we said no there was no further pressure.

The rooms are all well furnished with many interesting period pieces and in each room there is an enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable volunteer who will readily explain everything to you. There are also helpful information sheets in many languages. The excellent introductory film in the basement was very good at putting things into perspective before visiting the rooms.

All the rooms are beautifully furnished and decorated and there is very little restriction on where you can walk and what you can touch - but ask first.

Very highly recommended visit

“Don't miss this Edinburgh Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Our visit to the Georgian House was not planned and was taken as an opportunity to get out of the rain whilst on the Edinburgh tour bus. We are so glad that we visited not only to see the house but also this part of Edinburgh. There was a friendly and informative greeting at reception and the lady in the gift shop was most helpful to my daughter selecting gifts for her friends. The introductory film is very well done and should not be missed. The house is restored and presented to a high standard and the guides in each of the rooms were full of enthusiasm and interesting facts about the house and Georgian life.

There was a quiz and picture search for my children to do as they went around the house which was a great opportunity for them to interact with the guides. The dressing up clothes was enjoyed by my three year old - very clean and excellent order.

“Worth a Visit in Edinburgh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

Excellent example of Georgian architecture in Edinburgh's New town. The talented guides bring the lives of former residents to life as you move through its many beautifully appointed rooms. Its also a bit away from other popular attractions, so you have the chance to interact one on one with the guides and move through the rooms without the many restrictions you encounter in many other historical properties.
