“Slice of Georgian Life”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012 via mobile

Well worth a visit, especially if you are a national trust member - it's free to both Scottish and English varieties. Beautifully done rooms and a great deal of history.

“Eccentric National Trust at its best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

The house was presented through a play, all in Georgian style, with the visitors moving from room to room with the story. The actors asked the visitors lots of questions and did a good job of pretending not to understand anything that had been invented after the period. It's a brilliant idea and the kitchen is particularly good, but it was so peculiar I was quite glad to escape at the end!

“Well worth a visit, the guides are really engaging”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

The house in Charlotte Square in Edinburgh is typical of a New Town house, it's just off George Street in the West End. It's a great visit as every room has been carefully researched and renovated. The guides are excellent, knowledgable and entertaining and clearly love what they do. I have been here twice and on both occasions I have had a great time. It's good for adult and children alike as such explanations of what a 'dumb waiter ' is and origins of 'losing face' are little gems that all ages enjoy.

“A Bizarre Cool Experience.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

We landed in a Georgian Upstairs Downstairs with characters in every room bringing the house to life. I both loved it and hoped it wouldn't go on too long! (Don't think that this happens every week)

“Beautiful house”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

Beautiful, elegant house in central Edinburgh, near Princes Street. There is a well-made video which can be watched at the start of the visit. This video gives a potted history of the origins and background of the house and earlier inhabitants. The tour of the house takes about one hour, and we were really impressed by the volunteer guides.

The setting of the house is in a most elegant square, and will be easily missed by many visitors to Edinburgh, as we did not see any signs indicating the location. We have been in Edinburgh many times, but were not aware of the house prior to this visit.

Well done the National Trust for Scotland, this was a great visit!
