Wow what a castle it is you need lots of time for this and unfortunatly didnt have time to go inside , but worth the walk just to see the castle and the views .
I did not really understand the value of the price of the entrance fee at this castle as with other castles in England. Yes, it is all pretty and the city views are spectacular, but there are other places you can view the city from where the cost is much less. I felt it was a bit same old, same old, after seeing other sights with much better value.
The castle commands breathtaking views of the city, down to the Firth. If only for that, and the cheerful one o'clock cannon blow, it's a nice and interesting site. Then inside, it's not all that impressive. The entrace fee is way too expensive for a museum in a historical building. Probably a castle in the Scottish countryside is a much better choice if you are a castle buff.
Be prepared to spend a few hours around the castle, there's various exibitions and loads to see throughout.
There's some great views over Edinburgh from the castle.
There are a couple of cafes if you're that way inclined.
The castle is in a great spot to visit first thing, then head down the Royal Mile to the Whisky Experience and the Camera Obscura and onto Holyrood.
I'd recommend getting there early as the castle gets busier as the day goes on.
Amzing castle with stunning views of the city. Good value for money and very interesting. Would recommend staying for the 1 o'clock gun
