“Perfect Central location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

This is the second time I've stayed here and you can't do wrong by it.
It's only a few steps away from princes street and central edinburgh. The rooms were cheap and had comfortable beds.
Perfect for a getaway where you just need somewhere to rest your head

I stayed here with a friend for a 4 day visit in Jan 2015. It is easy to find, we got a bus (£7 open return) from the airport to Edinburgh city and this hotel is a 5 min walk from Waverley train station. We were very early and the hotel took in our bags so we could enjoy our day. We then returned much later for check in.
The room was huge, basic but huge. No telephone or drawers but hangers for your clothes. We borrowed a hairdryer from reception for free with no fuss. Had to ask for extra towels but again staff provided these with a smile.
The location is fantastic... no more than a 10 minute walk from anywhere (castle, Princes Street, museums, Holyrood Palace etc).
Because we stayed off peak season it was only £22 per room per night. Amazingly cheap. There is no breakfast facility but there is a vending machine for soft drinks. We bought drinks and snacks at shopping centre literally around the corner.
On checking out we again left our bags with reception all day for no charge and went back to collect them later.
Overall I was very impressed and this would have got 5 stars but for the fact there were no drawers in the room and no extractor fan in the bathroom which meant it was almost permanently steamed up.

Stayed here mid January. Check in was at 3pm which wasn't a problem as kept luggage in car until check in. Car parking is in the OMNI centre QPark, remember to get your chip scanned at the hotel for the discount, think it was £12 for 24 hours. Back to hotel, nice friendly welcome, ready to provide tourist information if needed. The room looked onto the back, which was absolutely ideal as nice and quiet. Nice and clean, high ceiling smashing bed, good pillows and shower was good. Great location, 1 minute walk from Princes Street, a few minutes from Waverley station and Playhouse, cinema etc all within 5 minutes walk. Overall, very good value!

Room Tip: Room at the back was nice and quiet.

This is the second time I have stayed in this Travelodge and so it was my first port of call when I decided to spend some of my week off work in Edinburgh. The staff on arrival were extremely polite and the service was efficient and friendly. My room was on the third floor, with a nice view looking out into the street, I didn't find it noisy at all. The whole hotel was spotless, you could eat your tea off the floor! My room too was immaculate, I have never seen bedding so white, fresh towels were left and the tea and coffee were well-stocked and replaced each day. Excellent value-for-money. The location of this hotel is great; if you were planning to spend a lot of time travelling, it is a five minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley station, two minutes to Calton Hill and obviously, being on Princes Street, it is a hive of public transport. There is a fantastic Italian just down from the hotel, Martone's, which is well worth a visit for beautiful Italian food and has a lovely wee bar. Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and I will be back for a third visit!

I became very familiar with this Travelodge after spending three weeks here due to my permanent accommodation being under construction. I'd rate it 1-2 stars based on my whole experience, but I'll give it three since such an extended stay is not normal or recommended.

Location is very central, close to Calton Hill on directly off Princes Street. Rooms are sparse, but clean. Everything in the room: Large bed with duvet and four pillows, desk with kettle, instant coffee, tea bags, and sugar, one desk chair, four hangers attached to bar on wall, and a small washroom with shower, sink, and toilet. No drawers, wardrobe, or closet, and no where to sit other than the bed or the desk chair. 30 minutes of extremely spotty (usually nonexistent) WIFI each day. No toiletries are provided other than a soap pump attached to the shower wall and next to the sink and a towel. No hair dryer or even an outlet for one in the bathroom.

I often had to buy my own toilet roll because it was not always replaced by cleaning staff. Towels smelled strongly of onions for some reason, and were very scratchy. I discovered that even when I left them or the duvet on the floor to show that I wanted it to be laundered, it instead would simply be picked up and put back.

Large window with drapes, looking directly onto Waterloo Place. However, windows could only be opened about 3 cm, and this was the only source of ventilation in the room. Needless to say, it stunk for DAYS if you ate any food in the room. I could tell when the cleaner of the day was a smoker, because the air would be so stale and putrid with cigarette smells that I would sleep on a friend's couch for the next few days. The hallway outside of my room also smelled strongly of urine for more than a week, despite having pointed it out to the staff.

No food is available at the hotel other than small continental breakfast boxes for a fiver, and there is no way to refrigerate anything. There are two vending machines, one for drinks and another snacks, in the lobby, both of which often would eat money and not dispense anything. There was rarely a receptionist at the front desk, and more times than not no one would show up even if you rang for them.

Summary: if you are in town for the weekend and do not intend to do anything (including eat, sit, unpack, or use the Internet) except sleep in the room, it is a great location and will do fine. Otherwise, find someplace better and save yourself the hassle.

We stayed at Waterloo Place in December 2014 and had a lovely stay. Rooms are spotlessly clean and in a great location for visiting the city. Very comfy bed with pristine white bedding. Would recommend and will definitely stay again.

As expected few toiletries, towels, extras. Got there at 12 and was offered an early check in if we paid, they took our bags for us with no problems and we came back at 3 as requested. Room was sparse, 30 mins of free wifi a day, had to ask for a hairdryer, extra tea and coffee, all given with no problems, but still have to ask. Biggest issue was tiny bathroom with a shower curtain that stops about 6 inches above the edge of the shower, so one of our three towels had to be used to soak up all the water. Also the extractor fan didn't work and toilet was very close to the wall and door so a bit of a squish. Carpet had burns/stains on but otherwise room was clean. Location is great, very close to the centre of things, we were in room 111 which was a quiet room at the back of the hotel.
