Went mid week, Thursday, so quite quiet, only three other tables being used while we were there. At the front of house it was the same old faces so expected everything else to be much the same. Have eaten here since it opened several years ago, at least five or six times a year. If asked a year or two ago, I would have described the food as being some of the best around if not the best. I'd have said the there wasn't much atmosphere and that hasn't changed any but I would still have rated it highly on the food alone....not anymore!! Our starters were the mixed kebab, the lamb in particular was rather chewy but I've had worse, would usually rave about this dish. Our mains were chicken and lamb, North Indian chilli garlic and East Indian jalfrezi. We both considered these to be rather bland and our side of aubergine, although tasty, barely covered the bottom of the dish. Perhaps they have changed chef since my last visit, the arrangement of the food on the plates was different to usual so this may be the case. Anyway....this is a place I used to rave about and have described other Indian restaurants as second best in comparison. I recently reviewed the nearby spice lounge and stated it would be difficult to walk past the eastern pavilion to go to it...I take that back!...I'm sad to say that the place no longer has a hold over me like it used to.
