“Great place tro stay and excellent value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

The apartment we stayed in this weekend was great. We had an Executive 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom apartment for 4 of us. It was spacious, well equiped, everything worked, it was very clean and there was no mould at all in in the bathrooms (my personal hate in hotels).

The location worked well for us as we could walk into the City Centre and to lots of restaurants etc. Its close (5 mins walk) to Haymarket train station in the West End of Edinburgh. The roads round Haymarket station are a little problematical while the tram system is being installed but its not too bad.

The reception staff were very helpful - especially as our travel plans were much disrupted by the snow which meant that we were unable to get to Edinburgh on Friday night as had been the original plan. The staff had also noted my request for a quiet location if possible and had put us at the rear of the building which was much appreciated - as we did notice there was some noise in the street as we returned from dinner on Saturday evening (presumably students returning to their accomodation further down the road). We also found the secure parking to be very convenient and good value.

There is also a cafe attached to Fountain Court apartments in Grove Street, and a lovely French tea room over the road which we used for afternoon tea and breakfast.

We will certainly return here on our next visit to Edinburgh.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear of the building

The apartments are located about 10 minutes’ walk from Edinburgh Haymarket Station and about 25 mins from the main station. So it's ideally situated for everything in the city.

Upon arriving at the location, I noticed a sign on the front door stating that if we were checking in we had to collect the keys from the Grove Road office, which is the next street and about 5 mins walk.

The check in procedure went very smoothly and I was given the keys to the apartment. Not having stayed in an apartment before I was not sure what to expect. After climbing the stairs to the second floor I found the apartment.

The apartment was very well set out and essentially was a one bedroom flat, with a lounge/diner, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. The apartment was clean and quite well decorated. I was impressed with the amount of utensils in the kitchen, it would have been easy to stay here for a week and cook instead of eating out.

For the amount of money we paid to stay here I was very impressed with the quality and I'm already looking at dates that I can return to this fair city.

The only downside for me was I though the bed was a little too firm for my tastes and there was only one pillow each. A second pillow would have been nice.

Would recommend.

We came to Edinburgh from Australia for Hogmanay celebrations! We arrived into Edinburgh, got the bus from the airport and the bus dropped us off with a short walk to 123 Grove street. Arriving at Fountain Grove apartments we had a two bedroom apartment as there were four of us. These apartments were clean, and well equipped and very homely. The staff could not have been more helpful, we requested some things for the unit and they were there in an instant. The day we left Edinburgh we had a while to wait for our flights and there was no problems leaving our suitcases while we went to explore more of this lovely city. The staff here were very friendly and most helpful !! I would recommend anyone to stay in these apartments and would love to return one day and would most definitely book this accommodation again.
Thank you Grove Apartments !!

Clean, comfortable, secure and close to the City Centre - don't understand why anyone would stay in a hotel and not try these as a great alternative. (especially if you have kids in tow) Staff were friendly and helpful.

My partner and I stayed here for 3 days over new years, we picked it based on the great reviews on trip advisor, however we were very disappointed, firstly we had to wait very long for a room to be ready, when we finally received the room it smelled of cigarettes and the bathroom also had a strange smell. Whilst the room layout was great, it did not make up for the poor service. The introductory folder was not in the room so we called to inquire and was spoken to as if there was no possible way that it could not be in there and that we had not properly looked, they promised to send one up and still did not deliver to the time we checked out. The hot water was set on a timer so we could not shower when we wanted. Overall the apartments did not ref how nice Scotland is and really put a damper on our new year experience.

Thank you for your recent review, please accept my sincere apologies for the problems you experienced during your stay and for the lapse in our Housekeeping standards on this occassion.

Having checked your comments further I have no record of Reception being made aware of the problems you encountered with regard to smell of smoke in your apartment-we do have a strict no smoking policy. Had we been made aware we would have tried to offer an apartment move.

A guest folder was requested and I am sorry this was not delivered to your apartment.

The electric boiler does offer a boost facility to provide additional hot water.

I hope we will have the chance to welcome you back to restore your faith in Fountain Court Apartments.

Kind Regards

Stephen Kinnear

Gorgeous little apartments only 10 mins walk from the centre of Edinburgh and worked out far cheaper than the average hotel. If you're in Edinburgh for more than the one day these apartments are highly recommended.

The staff are also worth a mention and were more than helpful with taxi's and advice etc
