Description: Edinburgh may be teeming with French restaurants but very few are as authentic as LEscargot Bleu. Gaining dedicated fans from the moment its doors opened, this place owes less to what a French restaurant should be than to what a French restaurant is as any visitor to the little bistros of Parisian back streets and off-the-beaten-track towns will tell you. The haphazardly put together surroundings, dotted with Edith Piaf posters and furnished with checked clothed tables, only hints at what the menu has to offer. So true to real French eating, the menu is very nearly unbelievable with snails cooked in piquant garlic, steaks smothered in cheese-heavy sauces and anything else youd care to imagine being sent out of any good kitchen in Perpignan, Poitiers or Pontivy served without a hint of irony.

“A slice of Paris in Edinburgh”

Pure French bistro, including a Maitre D' with the classic manner. Thoroughly good food in this small room; Standard menu of typical items, beautifully prepared and presented---and taking full advantage of the best ingredients.

“Great Restaurants in scotland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

Escargot Bleu is a lovely French Restaurant in Edinburgh. The food is excellent and the ambiance is to match. The staff are so very helpful in your choice if you have not had the dish before. The price is very reasonable. Would suggest that if you are staying near the Carlton hotel near Edinburgh Castle you get a taxi as in winter would be a long walk, can be done in the summer but opposite end of Princess Street and a bit off the track.

“Great food - great value - great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Having visited for lunch in the summer, we returned for dinner last week. The food was really good - steak tartare was prepared at our table and was superb. The wine list is short, encompassing and interesting. Desserts were wonderful. Service was very very good. Worked out at 31 Pds per head including wine.

“Friendly service staff, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

I like the atmosphere in the restaurant, the staff is friendly and efficient. The location is really good, out of the very touristic area, but still in the city centre. The food is only ok, you can find better french restaurants in Edinburgh.

“Amazing!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

Went here laast night for my birthday dinner. The food was just delicious. I had scallops followed by roast plaice wrapped in pancetta and it was cooked to perfection! Yhe macaroons for dessert were also very yumy and obv made in house as they were far better than what you buy in the shps. Service was attentive but not in your face, food came in good time aswelk. Would def reccomend :)
