“Good location but too many minor annoyances.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2011

We had booked a basement room but when we arrived we were shown to the disabled room on the ground floor with no door to the bathroom. My wife didn't want this and so we had the only other available room that was quite small but well furnished. Unfortunately it hadn't been cleaned very well - the bedside table was dirty and there was rubbish and dust on the floor. It was generally quite noisy - the halls were very bare and so sounds carried. Breakfast felt mass produced - fairly ordinary full Scottish with rubbery mushrooms and almost raw tomato. And why on earth sprinkle it with parsley?? Poorish service - my hot breakfast was brought to me when I was half way through my cereal. The main annoyance was a flat screen TV in the breakfast room from which teen pop songs were blaring. It wasn't particularly cheap and so overall I felt they could have done better.

We were originally booked into another guesthouse but they had to change us at the last minute and we were very grateful to the Queens for taking us in at such late notice. The Queen's is in a great location, not too close yet not too far from the main streets of Edinburgh. The room we were put in was the disabled one which didn't really bother us but not having a door on the bathroom was at times a bit embarrassing but we just sang a bit louder than we normally do! The room was clean and had everything we required. The shower was fab it certainly got the soot out of our pores! The only down side was the noise late at night, this was through no fault of the owners, it was just the other guests having no consideration for people on the ground floor! We bought ear plugs and didn't have a problem after that. At breakfast time the staff were very considerate and the only time we heard them was when we were getting ready to go for breakfast ourselves. Overall our stay was very good and we would like to thank the owners again for giving us a room at such short notice. We would definitely recommend the Queen's Guest House and we would definitely stay again.

Nothing negative to say about the hotel in general... very clean.. breakfast tasty, perfect location, friendly staff..... the only problem we encountered was our room was a double disabled access room on ground floor opposite the kitchen. I visited with my Mum and we had to share a bed... not the end of the world... the bathroom was in the bedroom tho and the only thing to partition it of was a shower type curtain that only went half way to the floor... we did alot of turning up the tv whilst daily ablotions were occuring!!!. The other prob was the proximity to kitchen.. brekfast prep started at 6 and no effort was made to be quiet.. radio on ,, plates banging.. all of which is understandable for the staff but not for us sleeping opposite.

The Queens Guest house is in a great spot in the city - and you'll find it easy to walk to most hot spots. Just a few minutes from the georges street, with lots of bars/resturants and Princes street where you'll find lots of great shops. on landing in edinburgh airport we hopped onto a bus which took us straight to princes street where we then walked to the guest house. When arriving we were greeting by the owner, very friendly warm welcome and shown to our room. Our room was clean, modern but it was very small. We had a lovely cosy shower room again modern and clean. I was expecting a slighty bigger room for what i paid. a few weeks before arriving in edinburgh i emailed the guest house to see if they would organise a bottle of champagne as it was valentines and all - this was no bother at all and was bought to our room before we went out for our meal. On valentines evening we went to the 'The Living Room' I recommend it for a lovely meal out in one of there seating booths, a gorgeous romantic meal. We had a lovley few days in edinburgh, and will def return one day - if returning to Queens would ask for a good sized room.

Delighted to find Edinburgh as a true winter wonderland - though the local traffic almost came to a standstill because of the snowfall - we loved to return to our cozy though stylish B&B in the evening. We definitely will come back next December.

The rooms are spacious and clean. The service was excellent and we were given a warm welcome. Gary was very helpful in providing directions, calling cabs and offering general information about his lovely city. I would recommend this guest house to anyone traveling to Edinburgh.

This was our first stay in Edinburgh and a very enjoyable one aswell. Queens was excellently located, ideal for getting to everywhere in the city. Room 10 was very clean and very tastefully decorated, albeit sometimes felt a liitle small with all the furniture, this was only a minor detail as the bathroom was fantastic, especially the power shower, the breakfast choice was more than enough. Parking was free but a 20 minute walkaway, this we knew before arriving. Overall it was a great 1st stay in Edinburgh, made very welcoming by all the staff at the guest house.
