We stayed here for two nights. The Hotel Missoni is in a great location on the Royal Mile, and is walking distance from the train station (and the bus you take from the airport drops you off at the train station).
We found the staff to be very helpful--they were enthusiastic and willing to help. And I liked some of the things included in the price of the room--two free items of laundry per day, and small bottles of water in the room each night (and a couple more bottles of water provided in the in-room refrigerator). Nice touches.
The hotel is very modern. We found that fun and interesting, though that may not be everyone's taste. And the hotel is very well kept up.
A few days later after travelling by train to St Andrews and back we spent a night at The Scotsman hotel. It is an attractive older hotel with some fine architectural features around its bar and dining room. And it also is in a great location. But the hotel itself did not "work" as well as the Missoni. The wifi in our room did not work at the Scotsman (we were told it did in most rooms of the hotel). The room we got (which we booked directly with the hotel) was a lower room with a view of the bottom of a bridge. And the overall service--though not bad--was not as friendly or responsive as the Missoni.
Net, when we return to Edinburgh, we will return to the Missoni.
