Very happy with our stay. Hotel has everything, great location, comfortable room with refreshments in mini bar, free newspaper, etc. Reception quick and painless, loving the doormen in their Missoni kilts!

There is no denying that Hotel Missoni is striking and I can see why it won Tripadvisors "Trendy" accolade but behind all the designer touches and swags there is a dreadfully run hotel.

As a friend was leaving to live overseas a group of us booked into HM for a wee treat. Sadly the stay was unforgettable for the wrong reasons.

Check-in was laborious; one member of staff behind a podium who ignored us for a full 10 minutes while they took endless phone calls - surely there should be a dedicated person to handle calls? Eventually we were seen to and honestly I felt I was signing my life away with the check-in info which went on, and on and on. Some of the information they required was quite bizarre - I wouldn't have been surprised to be asked my inside leg measurement!

No one offered to help us with our bags but as we eaten/had drinks here quite a few times so we knew where to go to find the lifts.

The room itself was as you would expect; designer flourishes everywhere in the distinctive Missoni style and a nice comfy bed

However we had paid a premium for a premium room (with stocked mini bar, scenic Royal Mile views etc) and this was not it. So back to reception and after much debate between staff who ran about like headless chickens we were shown our room. One of our party is a very tall chap and had paid extra to have a larger bed - it took 4 attempts to get him the right room! Again the staff did not have a clue.

Our new room had wonderful vistas but surprisingly for a hotel of style and one that has not been open for too long there were chips out of the desk, tiles missing in the bathroom and ripped linens. Not exactly a chic experience!

On the 2nd night we noticed upon returning to the room a strange burning smell. Next moment the standing lamp caught fire sending the shade into a ball of flames. We dealt with this quickly and put the fire out. We of course informed reception right away. They really could not have cared less. We had stopped a potentially serious incident which would have casued the hotel to be evacuated if we had not been so quick off the mark but we were not even offered us a complimentary cup of coffee. We also had to practically demand a new room as they woud have been happy to let us stay in the old one! Customer service anyone?

This level of incompetence is sadly reflected in the bar where staff run around trying to look cool and forget to serve customers, When you do get served 9 times out of 10 it's the wrong drink. One of the servers spilled a bottle of Fizz we ordered and never offered an apology or to replace the bottle which was 1/2 empty! This isn't just a one off - we have now visited 5 times and experienced this lack of service on every visit. There will not be a sixth!

We wanted to like Missoni we really did but sadlly I have nothing but awful things to say about this place.I hope if you stay here you have a better experience than we did!

We are just back from a night at the perfect hotel the room was everything you would expect from from a 5 star hotel The staff were great the meals were also lovely Both for dinner and breakfast It was very handy for the castle and royal mile. The mini bar and coffee machine was also good

Arrived one hour early and were shown to our room in double quick time.From the moment we entered hotel staff could not have been more attentive and welcoming. Room was well appointed with lots of nice touches.Coffee maker;free mini-bar, free films,fabulous toiletries et al Bed linen towels etc. were luxurious.We only stayed one night for a show and when we returned after show all towels used had been replaced by turn down staff. Did not have breakfast had lunch in restaurant instead.Late check-out big bonus.Lunch was beautiful very reasonably priced with great service. Had a few drinks in bar not a big fan of lobby style bars prices a bit over the top drinks very well presented. Would definitely return especially to try dinner in restaurant. Well done to all.
