Although we had not booked, they were happy to take our business. We were seated upstairs as the downstairs tables were not set and we requested to sit close to the play room, having 6 children in our group of 10. We waited approx 10 mins for the downstairs table to be readied which gave us time to review the menu. The waiting staff were very friendly and helpful which cannot be said of the manageress...when we arrived downstairs we were advised of no standing on seats, no messing up other set tables, keep the noise down as other families would also be in the area (they never materialised!) - and this was before we even managed to get seated and attempt to get up to any of the above listed! Also were advised by a member of waiting staff that children were not allowed to play in the bar/seating area, my son was crawling under the table on route to the toilet, so not exactly playing - but this was a message relayed by the manageress through other staff. A seat was not misplaced! Be aware there is no lift downstairs so be prepared to shift buggies down the stairs - assisted by a helpful member of staff.
Onto the food. It was good, although we waited a long time and although we requested the childrens food was provided first, they were nearly finished by the time we received ours. We had nothing complicated, soup, macaroni, chips, sandwiches etc - good but as would be expected in line with the price. But had better.
The playroom is a great area for the kids and keeps them entertained and keeps them out of sight for the other customers (this is the feeling we were left with). The decor was nice and the refurb bringing it up to date makes it a nice atmosphere.
Shame that the slow service and the attitude of the manageress let the place down - both could be easily fixed.
Won't be in a hurry back as there are better places around. Would happily go in for a coffee and a heat up after a walk around the crammond brig area.
