a big group of us - 21 women - went here for our christmas meal last saturday. it was a frosty cold night and the downstairs room of the nile valley was as warm and welcoming as could be. no airs and graces, but plenty of good-humoured atmosphere. the waitress was a star: smiling and friendly and she managed brilliantly with taking our orders and bringing us our food - in the midst of a group intent on chatting, laughing and opening silly presents. my main course was a spicy fish dish with rice and it was delicious - freshly prepared, full of flavour and a good-sized portion. other people's starters and mains looked really tasty, too, and everyone seemed to really enjoy their food. it's a byob cafe, no corkage charge, which is great in a group, and meant we rounded up to £20 each to leave a proper tip. thank you, nile cafe, for a fabulous night out: delicious, unpretentious, authentic food served with a glorious smile and no fuss.
