“Fantastic hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2010

What a birthday treat! Two nights at Hotel du Vin.
Room spacious with a big comfortable bed, sofa and comfy chair.
Big bathroom with huge bath and shower.Exceptionally clean.
Breakfasts were amazing with freshly squeezed juice, lots of fresh fruits, cereals and the BEST eggs benedict I've ever tasted! My husband had full Scottish and said the quality of everything was exceptional! I agree as I tasted the sausage and black pudding.
Had dinner there last night and it was delicious. Steak Onglet was chargrilled and yummy!!!
Dining staff exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Enjoyed a whisky from their huge selection in the whisky bar. Very comfortable!
Loved the paintings around the hotel and beautiful wine glass chandelier. This building has a history. If only walls could talk!!!
A fantastic break and couldn't be in a better location, so central.

Excellent hotel, staff, food and rooms. Stayed in August as was up for festival and hotel is in a great city centre location. Ate in the bistro one of the nights food of a hugh standard.

Would definately recommend, only down side was the standards bedroom bathrooms are a little small. Showers are great though :)

nothing like the York one

no parking on site or nearby that isn't on a cobbled hill

small room by normal standards let alone hotel du vin, shower over bath

reception were confusing

left my suitcase when I checked in before going to meeting but they didn't put it in room when I checked in later that day

bar is upstairs and small and hot

breakfast buffet average

not the normal standard for an HdV and no particular reason to stay there above say the Sheraton

After having enjoyed excellent stays at HDV in Cheltenham and Bristol, we were expecting great things from HDV Edinburgh. On arrival, the front desk staff were courteous and helpful, taking our bas and checking us in even though it was only 9am and check in states from 3pm. On return, the member of staff was not so helpful, our room was not ready (in fairness it was not yet 3pm) and it felt as if we were a mild inconvenience. We went away and came back again an hour later and were shown to our room, which was as you would expect from a HDV, the only disappointing element being the overpowering smell of bleach, which meant that we had to open the windows for a good couple of hours and run the shower for it to dissipate. I was also a little surprised to find that there was no complimentary water in the room, which had been the case in the two other HDV's in which we had stayed. Overall the stay was good, the facilities were good and the location is well situated for sightseeing, the staff (apart form one) were all very helpful and professional, however, we would recommend requesting a room away from the main road, as on both nights it was very loud with both traffic and drunken revellers returning home in the small hours. Unfortunately the AC was very noisy, which on a warm night meant a toss up between shouting or a fan (i didnt have any earplugs!).

Just like other Hotel Du Vin the hotel is quirky and the Bistro very good. A lot more atmospheric than most boutique hotels but average rooms with a small bathroom, and a bit on the noisy side. Very comfortable beds, air con works a treat and the smoking shelter is brilliant. I am not a smoker but if you are you will not feel second class using this deluxe affair.

We couldn't have been happier with our night at Hotel du Vin. We felt completely at home, loved the very central location just a couple of minutes walk from the Royal Mile and so pleased to be upgraded to a fantastic suite as walk in customers.

We've been to a couple of Hotel du Vins including Poole and Tunbridge Wells and we always feel the quality is spot on. I have to say so far this one in Edinburgh is my favourite!

Staff were welcoming and attentive, and the building, although doesn't look much from the outside is cozy and has real personality. We had a drink in the bar before heading out for a meal in the Witchery and we stayed for afternoon tea the next day. All wonderful!

Our advice would be to avoid the larger chain hotels and go for this. Great value given the location and quality.

Stayed Friday - Saturday night in a standard room at this Hotel and have to say that the service and accommodation were excellent. Staff were helpful and polite - room was really nice and comfortable. Breakfast was really good too - fresh produce on the buffet table and the cooked breakfast was delicious. Would recommend this hotel to Family and Friends.
