“Quirky, interesting, great fun..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2010

We stayed here at short notice following a good rate on last minute. Great welcome from the staff who had been most helpful following my call regarding parking. This is to be found at an NCP nearby at Quartermile ( where this a wee Sainsbury outlet and coffee shop) and you'll get money off your rate if you give your ticket to reception. You can offload your luggage on the way to the carpark.
We had a lovely garret type room which was large and interesting, with a bath on a platform at the window, large shower room with shower big enough for two and two basins. Great big bed and also a desk area for work. Plenty storage. All in all, fun and great. It was up a couple of flights of stairs so worth asking re access if you have mobility issues.
Super breakfast the next day, great staff and it is in a good location next to the museum of Scotland and near the Royal Mile. We weren't tourists at all but if you are, this is a good base. We left after breakfast but we have had lunch there which was good too. I've also attended a private meeting in a fabulous room there so another point worth mentioning.
Well done everyone. We'll be back.

This was the 7th Hotel du Vin we have stayed in and we were not disappointed by the decor and ambience of the place. The reception staff were helpful and friendly and our room suited us well, we had one double bed and a sofa bed for the boys. We ate one night in the restaurant, my husband chose badly but following our feedback they took some money off the bill. The continental breakfast was not as good as other Hotel du Vins, with a choice of only orange or grapefruit juice, various croissants etc and a couple of choice of cereals (coco pops, cornflakes and rice crispies). The cooked breakfast was superb.

The only problem we had was a dripping shower and we let reception know, it was still dripping the following night so not sure if it had been tried to be fixed but no-one said it had or hadn't.

The location of this hotel is fantastic and would recommend it to friends.

My partner and I stayed one night in July at Hotel Du Vin Edinburgh. We consider the stay to have been excellent, the room was fresh, clean, new and large. We were really impressed with the bed, bedding, fittings, bathroom and complimentary shower shampoo etc - from Arran Aromatics (Scottish provider).

We highly recommend staying at Hotel du Vin!

My partner and myself visited Edinburgh in January 2010 for my birthday and chose HDV as we had stayed in the hotel in Birmingham numerous times. Our experiences of HDV have always been excellent and this was no exception. We were pleased that on arrival we were upgraded to a large room at the back of the hotel, we recomend that you ask for a larger room as you get the bath in the room and they are generally more spacious and comfortable. The facilties in the room were excellent as always, lovely beds and monsoon shower. The service and facilities were excellent as well. The bar was lovely and served great whiskies in the snug downstairs. Perfect after dinner in the bistro which was good. The wine list is always exceptional and the recomendations usually sound. All in all a perfect birthday stay and we will definately be staying here again next time we come to Edinburgh. Thank you.

My boyfriend and I stay at Hotel du Vin a lot, but this was our first stay in Edinburgh. This is a new addition and feels so in a good way. The hotel is tucked away a little from the madness of the Royal Mile but only by 5 minutes so you are not far away from the action.

If you have stayed at this chain before you know the score, but I would recommend spending the extra for a bigger room its so worth it especially in Edinburgh as the basic rooms are tiny (I peeked at one) whereas ours was nice and big and had the bath and shower in the room which is always good fun! One top though is ask for one at the back/middle of the hotel, we faced the front which was a little noisy on a hot saturday night with the window open -although to be fair there was air con and I sleep with anything anyway!

We also ate here on our second night which was as always very good. We always asked for our cheese to be brought upstairs which was no problem and we had a cheese picnic after dinner in the comfort of our fluffy robes and bed!

Went to Edinburgh for the weekend and stayed at Hotel Du Vin. We have been to the Devonshire Gardens in Glasgow many times and found it to be excellent. The Edinburgh hotel was not to dissapoint, set within an old asylum(dont let this put you off) the building is a mixture of old a new architecture. Anyway cut to the chase; we ahd an amazing time. Location, Room, Food, service just what you would expect from the Du vin Chain. If you spend £75 in the bistro, you get a room for £35 = £110 for an amazing meal and room in an exciting city...

Having stayed at a few of the Hotel du Vin hotels now we booked hdv Edinburgh for a long weekend away as we knew what to expect.
The hotel is up to the usual hdv standards and the Bistro is excellent. If I am going to criticise then the levels of service from the Hotel staff were not quite up to the level we have experience in Henley and Cambridge. Continually having to ask for "Coffee for two" when we were staying in a £400 per night room started to grate a little! A minor point too... Is it too much to expect the Wifi network to reach to the top floor?! Range extenders are so cheap nowadays that there is no excuse really.
Also, the building just isn't as interesting as most hdv hotels tend to be based in. Maybe expansion priorities overtook the criteria quality of location ?

The bar staff were excellent as ever. Very knowledgeable and genuinely interested in what they do. I took the opportunity to learn about Single Malts and spent some time going through various options with the barman. Most enjoyable!

The location is on the south side of the city so a little walk to get to the Princes St. It is very near the Castle and museums though.
