“Clean and well located but lacking in service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2009

My wife and I stayed at the AWP hotel for three nights whilst on holiday in the UK. The hotel was clean and extremely well located near to shops, the Royal mile and Holyrood park. The rooms were sizable and we had a lovely view of Calton Hill from our room.

On the negative side, the service was not as good as it could have been. We had problems at check-in and similar problems at check-out due to an inability for staff to view notes which had been placed on the account. Service in the Hotel Bar was also poor, with long waiting times for meals. I also note that the hotel Bar appears to be a popular night spot for locals and at times this made the lobby quite noisy.

All in all the hotel was good value and very clean and comfortable. Its location makes it ideal for people who are looking to be out and about whilst in Edinburgh. However it is not a good hotel for a romantic getaway with little being offered in the way of extra services - the advertised "Spa" is in fact really just a pool, sauna and gym.

Stayed here on a DBB deal for a christmas getaway with friends. Rooms were lovely and comfortable and the location was excellent. Big downside however. I recommend you do not have any meals in the Apex at busy times of the year. We were put in a function room with other guest for breakfast. It soon became apparent we were forgotten about. It took over an hour for us to be served our breakfast. The excuse we were given was that the kitchen was busy . Also, our set meal the night before was bland and not worth the money. Recommend sleeping there but suggest eating in one of Edinburghs far superior eateries.

My wife and I had two nights in the Apex Waterloo Place Hotel, and it was an excellent choice. The reception foyer was very welcoming with staff to match. Our room was perfect. Spotlessly clean and well equipped, including a decent sized safe and fridge. We only had breakfast in the hotel, but there was an excellent choice and the food was delicious.
The hotel is a five minute walk from Waverley Station and the Playhouse Theatre. It is an ideal location for visiting the major attractions of the city.

We had a top 3 days at the Apex Waterloo. This hotel has a great central location & is an easy walk from the train station. The bed we had was enormous for a hotel & the bathroom with bath excellent. Would definitely stay there again & couldn't recommend it higher.

We have just returned to Ireland after a fantastic weekend break in Edinburgh.Having spent 3 nights at the apex, we would highy recommend the hotel. From the moment of our arrival the staff were very welcoming and insured us a very special stay. Not only did they accomodate our early check , they also upgraded our room and had a lovely bottle of merlot waiting for us on hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. (a lovely much appreciated treat). In addition to stylish contemporary very clean rooms the room had nice features very comfy queen size bed, 37 " flat screen tv ,spacious bathroom with seperate wet room(power shower)tThe hotel also benefits from a perfect location just situated at the top of Princes St in Waterloo Place. 2 minutes walk to the airport bus stop and city tour bus... and excellent for shopping. Great weekend excellent hotel.

This is the perfect location for visiting Edinburgh. Waterloo Place is at one end of Princes Street, close to some great bars and restaurants in the new town and next to North Bridge for access to the Royal Mile and the old town. We asked for a quiet room and it was more like a suite, stylishly furnished in a tasteful modern style with a full-size bathroom and giant flat screen TV discreetly recessed into one wall. The price for the quiet room was no view, just a window onto the internal courtyard, but the quality of the room more than made up for this. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. What more could you want? Well, look for the special deals on the hotel's website! Highly recommended.
