“Good location, great rooms and an amazing spa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2009

We were in Edinburgh for business and extended our stay for a few days. For the business part we stayed at Apex International, for the fun part we switched to Waterloo Place.

It turned out to be a good choice! Both hotels are great, but the Waterloo offers more luxury. The room we got was not particularly special (just the interesting web rate), yet very spacious, with a great bed, large couch, flatscreen TV and a comfortable bathroom. The Yu Spa area in Waterloo Place is very nice as well (pool is not too large, so no lap swimming, but still - for a larger pool take the Apex international) and their fitness has all machines you'd want. The breakfast has a buffet section for continental breakfast; for english or scottish you can choose from a menu.

I would recommend this place to my friends for sure. And if we ever have to be in Scotland again, I won't hesitate.

After a day of traveling by plane, train and car I almost cried with pleasure when I checked in to the hotel. The lady on reception was friendly and checked me in so quickly, my room was beautiful and the bed the most comfortable I have ever slept in.

I was too tired to go to the restaurant but my room service food and wine was delicious. The bath and separate shower were fab, the long soak welcome after a long day. The shower perfect in the morning.

It will be my first choice now when traveling to Edinburgh, whatever my budget or whatever the reason.

I love this hotel! Just 2 minutes walk to the major train station and the airport bus but just far enough away from the main traffic to be a quiet retreat. If contemporary, comfortable, clean and friendly accommodation is important to you then this is the place to stay in Edinburgh. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a lovely old building that has been renovated and is extremely well appointed. The bed is the most comfortable I had on my travels, a large screen TV with movie channels, the bathroom was luxurious and the food from room service was delicious. It was so easy to get to everything in Edinburgh from the hotel and a delight to come back home to. For those on extended travel and with loads of laundry, there is a laundromat with friendly staff about 10 minutes walk fro the hotel - ask the reception staff and they will give you directions. I would definitely return to this hotel again! Just one thing - the internet connection is very slow even in their business centre - it was the only negative in an otherwise brilliant stay.

I stayed at this hotel during a 2-day visit to Edinburgh with my husband, and we were pleasantly surprised. We got there by taking a bus from the airport to Waverly Bridge bus stop and then walking 2 blocks down Princess Street to Waterloo Place. There isn't a sign out front, which made it somewhat difficult to find, but once we walked through the glass doors, we were pleased to see a clean, modern lobby and friendly staff behind the counter. After checking in, we took the elevator to our room and were further pleased to find a spacious bedroom with a big, comfy bed and a flat screen TV. Even the bathroom was spacious, featuring a glass-enclosed shower, and a separate bathtub big enough for two!

We had booked a bed and breakfast package and were offered a full hot Scottish breakfast every morning in the hotel's dining room, just off of the main lobby. The food was delicious!

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Edinburgh. Not only was the hotel clean and spacious, the staff friendly and the breakfast delicious, but it was walking distance to several of Edinburgh's highlights (e.g. the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, etc). We walked 2 blocks back to the Waverly Bridge bus stop, hopped aboard a hop-on, hop-off city bus and were able to tour the entire city!

Once of the best Hotels we have stayed at in Edinburgh.
Check in was fast, efficient and welcoming.
The hotel itself is a combination of old and new. Reception is sleek and modern with tasteful decor mixing with the Georgian splendour of the building. If you are looking for traditional with lots of tartan- then try somewhere else!
Rather strangely (although not for Edinburgh) Ground floor (from street level) is actually level 5 from the back -as the hotel is on a hill! So, from the bar you look out at ground level from the front and fifth floor at the back.
Our room was a nice size with a large wall mounted LCD TV (with a good picture!), plenty of storage space, an iron and ironing board and lots of low level lighting with some thought gone into it.
The bathrooms were large spacious, had plenty of storage space and a separate walk in shower. The whole thing was fitted with limestone tiles all over which looked lovely.
Breakfast was good, and there seemed to be enough staff to cope.
There is a bar at the back of the hotel, and a road that does seem to get a fair few noisy people at night (the sound echoes around as it is 7 story buildings all round) However, It is very central and I have yet to find a quiet this close to the main attractions.
I will definitely stay here again- especially if the prices remain as competitive.

Apex hotel in Edinburh is an excellent choice if you want to really enjoy your stay in the city, the service, the location, the poeple.... everything was really good, also you can walk around the old town and don´t care about the time because your hotel has a very good location, and the price is also really good!
Enjoy your stay!

Enjoyed a one night stay at the Apex Waterloo Place, excellent location close to Princes Street. Hotel was clean and smart, staff were very friendly. Stayed in a superior room on the 9th floor, we were located right at the front of the hotel which sits on a main road so unfortunately there was some noise from the street below - wasn't a big deal for a single night but for a longer stay this could be annoying. Room was very spacious and modern, and featured large wall mounted tv and DVD player. Bathroom had both shower and bath and again was very fresh and modern. Only issue we had was on pulling back the duvet there was a dirty mark on the bedsheet. After a call to reception housekeeping arrived within 10 minutes to remake bed, so issue was resolved easily. Next time we're in Edinburgh we would definitely return.
