“triple glazing required on floor 2”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

rooms on the second floor, at the rear of the hotel, are noisy - our first night was spolit by noise through the night from the adjacent club, and then from 6am, staff use the terrace below for delivery and fags.
Reception were really good and we swapped rooms for the rest of our stay - floor 5 is much more peaceful- but that first night was poor

Room Tip: avoid floor 2

Are what make this hotel so lovely. My partner and I stayed during the last weekend of the Fringe so expected to pay some hefty prices wherever we went. As such we opted for the Apex so we would at least get something for our money. We weren't disappointed, with very friendly staff on arrival and our bags taken to our room while we headed off to our first shows.

When we returned we were very impressed with the room we had received, well decorated and plenty of space. The view was nothing to rave about but otherwise everything else was as you'd expect (my only gripe was that we overlooked the hotels service entrance and because we were so low were woken by the sound of bins being moved in the morning). Bathroom was very large, with a separate bath and shower, and the toiletries were top class. Other amenities in the room are also good quality with a selection of hot drinks, complementary water in the fridge and an iron with a decent lead on it. The Bed was large and comfy. The selling point for me though was the complementary rubber duckie which were we encouraged to take and include in travel photos as part of a competition. It's the extra touches like this which show an actual interest in their guests, not just the great service and rooms.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel mid August for two nights. The location of the hotel is perfect for sightseeing around Edinburgh. It takes around 15 mins to get to Royal Mile and 5 mins to Princess Street. The room was very clean and comfortable. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was nice, with shower being very good. Plenty of storage. Tea and coffee making was in room and complimentary bottles of water each day. We had breakfast at the hotel which was very nice. Good food and service. The reception staff were very polite and had good knowledge of the area. Will definitely stay at this hotel again

Apex Waterloo Place is situated in the heart of Edinburgh but is still very easy to reach by car and it is surprisingly silent inside. The staff are very friendly and the comfort in the rooms is top notch. Our children really liked the opportunity to take a dip in the pool after a day of sightseeing, so everybody was happy. Even more so when you visit the Elliot restaurant that is part of the hotel. Without any doubt the best looking plates of hotel food I have ever seen. Luckily the taste wasn't bad either, so if you are looking for central, modern and stylish hotel that tries to pamper you during your stay, don't look any further than here.

Not a cheap hotel by any means but a very good one.

* Very close to Waverley Station ('secret' ground floor exit almost adjoins it) but still fairly quiet

* Nice sized rooms with an excellent bed and large TV

* Wi-fi included in price - very important for us and a nice contrast to tight-fisted chains like Jurys

* Excellent staff

We've already booked to go back for next year's Festival.

The location for this hotel is excellent, most attractions are with in walking distance in the city and bus stops just down the road for the airport & sights outside the city.
The room on the 10th floor was clean with King size bed ,built in wardrobe , Bathroom with walk in shower, all very nice. But it felt very cramped ( not what I expected for a 4* hotel ).
Evening meal in Elliotts was ok, but have had better and cheaper in 3* hotels.
I know it was Festival week and the hotel was full, but I didn't expect to have to line up and queue like school children for breakfast in the morning.

Room Tip: 10th floor roof space room felt very cramped, 4* price for 3* room.

We had stayed here before, a few years ago, in one of their suites. We didn't actually like the suite, since it overlooked the main road (noisy), and the bedroom was on a mezzanine level (a nuisance if you had to go to the toilet during the night). This time we booked a normal room, and actually enjoyed it a lot more.

The room, 1034, was on the top floor. It was a very spacious room, although it was set in the eaves, so the roof sloped in on one side, which some people might not like. Also there is only a very small velux window, so you don't have any real view and not a huge amount of natural light. For us that wasn't a problem. We wanted a quiet room, which it was, and a room that was a good size. The bathroom was also well laid out, with plenty of space to store your toiletries and move around. There was a sofa in the bedroom, a nice large TV, and plenty of hanging space for our clothes. The staff were excellent, very polite and helpful. The room was carefully cleaned every day (we were there for 6 nights). The lifts came promptly -- we only rarely had to wait, and even then not for very long. The location is perfect for shopping on Princes Street, or for getting to most festival venues if you are there in August. The bed was comfortable, with a good selection of pillows.

We have stayed in most of the Apex hotels in Edinburgh, and this is probably the nicest room that we have had to date. The only slight criticism I would make is that we could hear the people in the room next to ours, which was a bit of a nuisance at times -- the room is by no means soundproof, which is a shame.
